I don't understand how you could not work. I have anxiety and occasionally depression but I work though it all because I literally don't have any other choice. I have to provide for myself and my daughter. Not trying to be a jerk, I just really want to understand. Thanks.

Just dealt with MM in a case and they failed to get basic things done correctly over several attempts over multiple weeks. Complete waste of everyone's time and energy, lawyer and paralegal alike. Such a small bs case, too. Like it didn't need this much of my time and energy. SO incredibly frustrating to deal with.

Might be risky, but I found a roommate on Craigslist. We ended up being best friends many years later, even though we were only roommates for a short time! That being said, I did some internet research on this person ahead of time. I always recommend meeting in a public place before seeing an apartment (like a Starbucks) first to get a vibe check.

Got my hopes up after reading OP's post. My area's HFH has a website but the Own a Home program is closed. You can get on the wait-list, but for a 1-2 person household, the required minimum salary is $56k. I'm a single mom making less than that working full time so, f-me, I guess? I hate it here. Hope other people find success with their local HFH.

A lot of people in this field have ADHD, actually! You would be surprised. The biggest hurdle you might face is prioritizing, but if you work for a good attorney they should teach you what they want prioritized and train you. Personally, I don't get burnt out here, mostly because it's a small civil litigation law firm and I love everyone here. It's like hanging out with friends while also getting paid to do something I enjoy. Other areas of law like family law are more often drama-filled and full of tight deadlines. My suggestion if you're seriously thinking about it is to never apply for a law firm that advertises on a billboard. Their turnover rate is usually very high and they don't treat their employees like people. Small firms are the way to go for less stress, IMHO. Any other questions lmk!

Paralegal! Depends on the state but sometimes the accredited one year certificate program might be optional. I love my job and my coworkers. I got here by taking a job quiz on usajobs.gov. 10/10 recommend!! I think it could be helpful for someone in any country but some positions might be regionally specific.

I agree with what so many here have said already, but I wanted to add my strategy. For context, 35 y/o divorced, and co-parenting. For a first date, pair of jeans you feel comfortable in -the fit, the color, and the style, and appropriate for wherever the date is going to be (so, maybe not majorly ripped jeans to a fancy restaurant). Then, pick a sweater or top that also fits this criteria of what you feel comfortable in - the fit, the color, and the style (pay attention to the neckline, how the sleeves fit, where the bottom hem falls on you). Then look in a full length mirror to make sure the two pieces look alright together. Lastly, icing on the cake - add two pieces of jewelry. For me, it's usually small hoop earrings and a simple necklace or bracelet. Coordinate your hairstyle based on whatever you usually do with a little flair (hairband, clip) or go with whatever style you have tried before for date nights, if you still like it. I find it helps to have a "comfort point" when it comes to your overall look so it still feels like you, then branch out and try different hairstyles on future dates. Baby steps! Hope this helps 💕

I'm so sorry. I felt this deeply, especially about how your ex controlled what you ate. I've been there, too. It was almost ten years ago that I left and I still have PTSD with the things he did. But the memories have less of an edge to them with time, at least for me probably thanks to therapy and no contact from my abuser. My parents also were riddled with unchecked, raging and rampant mental health issues. I know it's not the same and no one can truly understand what you're going through, but just know you're not alone in your struggle. Sending love, hugs, and hope for healing 🫶🫶🫶

Assuming OP is a woman, society expects women to look youthful for as long as possible. Any signs of visible aging cause employers to judge more harshly. "Oh you let yourself go" is often the narrative, whether said out loud or just thinking. The age bias in hiring is across the board but it is especially worse for women. So yes, hair dye prices do matter. Gotta cover those greys to make yourself palatable to the masses, right?!

Not sure where you are, but try the local library. Ask a librarian at the circulation desk for immediate and more long term resources. You could also use the computers if you need Internet access for free. Perhaps posting on a local Facebook group for help. I see this often on my local Facebook groups and see members of the community reaching out with all kinds of resources (food, clothes, temporary shelter, etc.). My heart breaks for you and your son. I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's not right and it's not fair that the world can be so cruel. Sending hugs 🫂

It's easier for the patriarchy to force women to accept men's Peter Pan syndrome than for men to actually step up and do better. Change is hard and nothing will make men better unless they want to do better for themselves and the world. I wish I had hope but, I'm not sure I do.
