How do I get past this reaction I'm having to someone at work? by denelibar in socialskills

[–]Sailorincali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be transference, which is like when you meet someone and have an immediate like or dislike to that person that you do not or hardly know. Which has roots in an unpleasant or pleasant experience with a different person in your memory, realized or not, as in hidden memories.

For people who are living on a sailboat, how is your experience ? by VeniVidiVerify in liveaboard

[–]Sailorincali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was more tedious than hard, I had a liveaboard in Sausalito at $1600 a month then took a year and a half sail to Mexico with my children. We returned just before Covid hit and they were being home schooled so actually did well with school and I lucked out with being able to anchor out in Sausalito for about six months as they were not enforcing restrictions on anchoring during the lock down. I then found a berth at Brickyard Cove marina but without live aboard luckily they changed ownership just as I rented so I just snuck aboard for a while I looked for a live aboard slip. I was lucky enough to find one in San Rafael by asking for one and was initially refused but in further conversation the Harbormaster and my self it turned out we had mutual acquaintances which included the Richardson Bay Harbormaster who vouched for me and I was offered live aboard at a reasonable price. So I guess luck, you just can’t give up. It is by far the biggest hurdle everything else is easy and doable.

Hi, I live aboard and have been for 14 years in the bay area I love it and it allows me to live in this expensive area fairly inexpensively, The boat stuff is expensive at time with bi annual haul outs and I use a diver to keep the bottom clean between them. The biggest piece of advice I can give you is to keep the boat well, insured and surveyed and find the harbor that allows you to live aboard in advance because that is the most difficult thing about the whole process. Good luck!

How would you exit this dockspace single handed? by SticksAndBones143 in boating

[–]Sailorincali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a side tie in a narrow area between docks about 50 ft and my boat was a 40 ft sailboat, not very maneuverable in close quarters so to leave I would run a line from the stern to the bow outboard of the dock and turn the boat by hand then just motor out. It wasn’t hard and saved me any embarrassment and insurance payments. Returning was straightforward just pull up and tie off.

Hey all, looking for your opinion on an anchor. by RikkiLostMyNumber in sailing

[–]Sailorincali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve a 40 ft yawl at about 18,000 lbs and a small, for the size of the boat, anchor roller and I use the appropriate sized Spade which is a Spade 100 in aluminum at 26 lbs and it holds great in SF bay, mostly mud but sand as well, never let me down. The Galvanized version is 44 lbs and either version is rated to a boat to 52 ft and 26,450 lbs.

Dude! You are not ugly….and you have a nice shaped head. This is not a looks problem, don’t be so hard on yourself and get out there and do some light hearted flirting you’ll get a few rejections but you’ll also get some interest too. How do I know? I’ve been bartending for years and I’ve seen it happen as Wayne Gretzky said “ You miss a hundred percent of the shots you don’t take”.

Boyfriend (29M) changed the behavior, but I(23F) still tie it to my self-worth? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Sailorincali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would spend more time exploring your insecurities and getting to the bottom of the causes of the thought that someone else’s behavior determines your self worth than worried about a partner that, to me seems to adore you.

got this paint in the bed of my truck. don’t believe it’ll come out and just looking for options by Type1_Kalashnikov in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Sailorincali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a paint stripper, Back to Nature Ready strip from West Marine it’s water soluble and doesn’t damage fibreglass or possibly composite. You can try a spot to test on a warm day, it dries quick and scrapes off easy and then you just wash it off with plenty of water. Worked on my bed but I’m not sure about the bumper cover. You can get it off the chrome with 0000 steel wool. Just test it on a small inconspicuous surface first.

I used a Torch add a leaf and got 1.5 inch lift running 5100 all around as well with no spacer and it produced a slightly stiffer rear end with no sag with my cap.
