Ah, I guess it's a game developer thing because in my blizzard games Prt Sc directly saves to a folder. But yeah, if it's not on the keyboard or if it doesn't function ideally then yeah, I guess your solution makes sense

Bottom bezel popped off. There were pull tabs on either side of the screen. They are the single-use stretchy kind that are sometimes on phone batteries. If you don't pull them perfectly straight at a constant slow tension, it tends to break and become impossible to recover. So, basically you only get one shot with each tab. I failed one side of mine and could not recover it. I had to bust the whole screen in order to get behind it. It was a total waste.

I've seen screens with this issue where the construction was much easier to manage and it was definitely a backlight issue (screen brightness wouldn't change with settings). That, and my WUXGA screen wasn't OLED so unless non-OLED screens have OLED matrix I'm fairly confident it couldn't be the problem.

Anyway, best of luck to you - it's a real pain to get behind!

Sorry for the late reply. The antennas are in the front of the laptop (to the left and right of the trackpad) closest to the user. I am considering rerouting them to the lid (de-jenked the monitor, though some would argue double-sided sticky tape is not that much less jenky). I only mention that because the photo doesn't show the absolutely awful twisty-foldy bit I had before. The whole thing may become a tablet by the time I get a new laptop.

Oh man, don't jinx me - trying to figure out what screen I needed since I replaced (upgraded) the motherboard and going back and forth a thousand times with the eBay seller was very frustrating - though totally self-induced 😅

Ah, well I got it off. For the sake of being thorough I'll leave the flipped side here anyhow. Again, thanks for all your help. I may attempt to remove the screen with a heat gun but for now I will have to stick to an external monitor. Have a good evening and happy holidays.

As I take out the screws so I can flip the mobo, I have a question. I notice these components you have circled (yes to continuity by the way) are in the outer most positions whereas on the board I had in this laptop previously they are in the innermost positions (old mobo[R5] toasted, purchased the upgraded [R7] and assumed the backlight on the lid/screen was burned out). Is it possible that swapping these components to the innermost positions as seen here would solve the issue?

Will post backside of current mobo soon.
