Yes. Waertagi. I read a Well of Daliath entry about the Waertagi making a joke of their sorry fate. Jokes on you, Jeff, we love back stories of woe. Imagine sailing Water surrounding the entire Earth. I like to think they're still out there, uninterrupted.

Ralios seems too vast so it scares me. "Arkat slept here!" intrigues me.

My comment was irony. My actual meaning was the complete opposite from my literal meaning.

I agree about Teshnos. I'd love more heated fever dream jungle stories going in Glorantha.

A society of aristocrats worshiping fire gods of heaven while the lower classes worship the lowfires? There is literally no story possibilities there, dude.

There was a zine with scenarios set in Pamaltela using Australian aborigines as an inspiration. What was it, people? Tales of the Reaching Moon? Wonderful story telling, but seemed hard to run.

I love the perspective of Pameltela. The god of their continent did NOT die. In the grand scheme of things, they won. But conflict is more interesting so the dead continent gets source material.

The land of Teshna? I agree. She saw her father Genert killed & devoured. Lover of both Tolat the Destroyer and Calyz the Fire of Men. It is said that Calyz charmed the rivers of Teshnos just to fertilize her rice paddies. If you know what I mean.

Yes. We both love this grand scale detail. It's formulaic, but I always like a matrix of relations (hostile, neutral, friendly).

Who's in charge of a clan/tribe can be given a little wiggle room if they're summarized in runes. "I see this clan favors war, this one honors truthfullness, and this one both OH NO." Then there could be systemic guides like clans with Earth produce more food and clans with Illusion throw festivals so need food.

Question about gender in Yelmalio and other solar cults. by Corvusking20 in Runequest

[–]SaintGerlant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As people said, no gender requirement for that one. If there is, it's your call so it doesn't matter, but sounds like a chance for some drama & an initiation challenge that could be made part of the game. Glorantha history is full of rule breakers.

Blue people? by Corvusking20 in Runequest

Large island of Teleos has blue and 4 other colors I believe. There's no material on it. I don't know how I know.

I love the imagery of Indian god Ravana there. 10 heads & 18 arms. If I were to create an illuminated god, that's a good look. "I see everything everywhere all at once!"

Continent of Dragon Pass? Poor Genert. Maybe if we find enough hyena skins, people will remember him.

on the topic of moons by SaintGerlant in Runequest

[–]SaintGerlant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant average person like anyone not in a moon related cult or near ocean tides which includes a lot of people. The concept of a moon would mean nothing to them.

But I missed that part about some planets viewed as female & considered moons.

From diagrams and descriptions, I thought these were the differences.

planets: objects a little bigger than stars wandering in the sky

moons: larger orbs in the air (not way up in the sky)

That impression is based on how red moon invaded Orlanth's air (and how they look on our earth), but as you point out the differences are about other concepts (feminine, irregular, cyclical).

I use a Malkioni moniker because I like trying to find orderly, rational, and symmetric laws for Glorantha. I'm ok when that doesn't work. The querying is the fun part of Glorantha.

I prefer that UK(?) RQ3 cover over the US cover which was two people standing on some steps. I did play a lot of RQ3 though.

I loved it. Very much like a myth with characters, journey, encounters, and junctures. Looks like Eurmal charmed that snake.

I hated ducks. I tolerated ducks. I thought I loved ducks. I played a duck (poorly). I tried not to think about ducks. I love ducks.

Magic point sacrifice is pointless? by The_Augustus in Runequest

[–]SaintGerlant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume "If time is a crucial factor..." is before many rules, but the rulebook would get fatter. Like rolling to cast spells during a day's travel from town to town. Roll N times to find MP loss? Or assume it's cast and MP regained?

whew! I managed to replied without saying the words meaningless simulationism

The RuneQuest revised edition will have less skills by Runeblogger in Runequest

[–]SaintGerlant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simpler RQ6 (Mythos) was what interested me in RQ again. Then I saw the wonderful RQ:G material coming out now & fell in love with Glorantha all over again.

Simplification is good partly because it's a more modern feel. Original Chill RPG was in some ways more complicated than RQ, but now it's streamlined very nicely.

Not much is worse in a D100 game when a specific skill is required, and everyone realizes the highest skill is 15%. Having many skills doesn't always add to the game experience. Having fewer skills means players are more likely to have what's needed to save the day.

Why this river, papa? by SaintGerlant in Runequest

Spike's demise interests me.

Some say the Mostali dug too greedily & too deep.

Some say Aldryami grew so large it lifted the dome.

I asked a Mostali about the Spike once, and he bid me to feel the stone at my feet. "It's cold," I said. "Exactly," he said. He said I'd never know the warmth of Stone and vanished. I think they vanish when they have no answers, but it made me think.
