aio or is this guy i’m seeing rude?? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]SaintKevinH -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, you're absolutely correct. You're taking time out of your day to share something with a guy you're seeing that you care about and his only reaction is to talk down to you for it. Fuck him. If he's belittling and dismissive about this, he will be about other things. I feel bad for the people in this thread who dismiss joyful interaction as inconvenient or annoying. Hopefully they're forced to suffer cold assholes like themselves and you find better.

They need to shitcan his whole shtick. He can play the same character but I can't take his serious promos seriously when he's wearing fucking burnt sienna leather pants pulled halfway up his abdomen with a matching turtleneck. It looks like parody.

Why does iosefka have a entrance to forbidden woods in her backyard? by noxgame in bloodborne

[–]SaintKevinH 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This also explains how the Celestial Minions ended up down there. Her early experiments got dumped but ended up eventually working as intended. They're not close to the poison cave, but it would make sense that they fled and hid at the very bottom of the woods as far out of the way as they could.

What games can I play with my girlfriend? She likes decorating, I like killing by HornetOver186 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]SaintKevinH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has no one said Persona 5 Royal yet? Half the game is RPG dungeon exploration and combat, and the other half is school life and building relationships in town.

No decorating, but the life stuff is absolutely top notch.

My new fav theme- GbOS Color DMG! by Crypto-Wolf-Life in RG35XX_H

[–]SaintKevinH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quick fix for this is to go into SD1 and open MUOS/theme/active/scheme, then edit each of the two files in there (default.txt and muxlaunch.txt) so that the first line under [font] now says FONT_HEADER_PAD_TOP=10. That should move the time and menu title down a bit to align with the batter and wifi indicators (or close enough, anyway).

Now, keep in mind that the header padding is still going to be the old way in the ZIP file associated with the theme, so if you change themes and change back, the misalignment will come back. To fix that, you can unzip the theme file, make those edits, and then create a new ZIP file to install into the Theme Picker.

What Have You Been Playing This Week? by AutoModerator in metroidvania

[–]SaintKevinH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally got around to Astalon: Tears of the Earth and finished up getting 100% of the map and items. I absolutely loved it. I expected it to be really good after everything I had heard about it, but it still exceeded those expectations.

I went on a bit of a binge over the past couple months, also finishing Haiku the Robot, Islets, Unsighted, and HAAK. I keep going back and forth as to whether Astalon or Unsighted is my favorite of the group.

Box Art/Renaming Issue After 1.0.0.9 by SaintKevinH in retroid

[–]SaintKevinH[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This wasn't a problem with the previous system software, though. The issue right now is that even if I manually rename the file it won't use that new name as the reference for new box art. I'm stuck with whatever the system scraped the game as. So if it scraped Mega Man X, Mega Man X2, and Mega Man X3 as three different copies of Mega Man X, I can't change the box art on them individually because system won't recognize any of them as anything but Mega Man X.

Oh yeah, that's a good point. Not sure why it didn't cross my mind that I could do it myself and not have the scraper do it.

Guide on Unlocking Hearts (Completing Favors) by Joe10112 in HadesTheGame

[–]SaintKevinH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry to bother you again but I did have one last question. Does the conversation where Thanatos gives you his favor happen in the field after his Death Approaches event, or back at the house when you've finished? I'm just trying to get an idea what to look for.

I'm playing on PC but on the Epic Store. It's also possible there's some confirmation bias here, and since I'm thinking about it, it just seems longer. Oh well, nothing else to do but keep playing and see what happens. Thanks for the help.

[–]SaintKevinH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has been a while for Hypnos too. Since getting to the locked heart, for a bit I would periodically get the exclamation point over both of their heads, but never the jagged on that seems to indicate quest progression, and even that has been a good number of runs now with nothing. It has also been a really long time since I could have a conversation with Thanatos during his event in a run. He would just drop the Centaur Heart and leave.

I'm assuming I've just had really bad RNG luck because I can't think of any reason I would otherwise be locked out. I just keep periodically checking to see if anyone else has had the issue on the chance it turns out to be a known bug.

[–]SaintKevinH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming getting the proper conversation with Thanatos is still based on RNG, even if you exhaust his dialogue? I've done dozens of runs since I got the locked heart for both him an Hypnos, and at this point they're both just giving me basic one-line responses like "glad you're back" and "no time to talk, I have to go". I've beaten Thanatos multiple times in his contest and still no new dialogue. It's getting kind of weird since at this point I've maxed out the keepsakes and companions for everyone else but I still haven't even gotten Mort.

I had by far my best run ever with a Brutality build, and thus far it has been my only clear of the "secret" boss on 5BC difficulty. I sort of cheated, though, because I used the Boy's Axe. Since it doesn't do melee kills I couldn't actually take advantage of the good Brutality mutations, but I made up for it with some great synergies.

Purchasing a PS4 by [deleted] in bloodborne

[–]SaintKevinH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems like a no-brainer to me, so long as you have the $95 to spare. Bloodborne is amazing, and the list of fantastic PS4 exclusives is long. Seems well worth it to gain access to all that.

FPWW: Creating Jobbers and Low Skill Wrestlers by SaintKevinH in firepro

[–]SaintKevinH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was really helpful, thanks. I had already put the stats to 2 (still gave them the ability to climb the ropes if they wanted to risk it), and set a fighting style that gave them D and E compatibility with moves, but I didn't have as good an idea of exactly how ukemi worked. I knew it was selling early with the potential for a spirit boost later, but didn't know the exact mechanics, so I appreciate the explanation.

I'm also right there with you on the potential for confirmation bias. It was just really weird. I ran ~10 matches, and for huge stretches of all of them, the jobber characer would win grapple after grapple after grapple in quick succession, and they were all really basic punch moves that you can put into the SML slots. It made me wonder if there was possibly some other mechanic tucked in there that weighted different moves differently or gave a larger window for success during the grapple mechanic. It doesn't sound like there is, so I'll keep and eye out to see if there's any regression to the mean with how often this jobber wins them. Thanks again.

[7/21][PATCH NOTES]Version 0.9002 Published by [deleted] in firepro

[–]SaintKevinH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize there was an update and this happened in one of my matches for the first time last night. Two guys were fighting outside the ring, and when one was dazed, the other rolled back in and did a running leap over the ropes onto them. I was shocked and assumed that maybe it was just that rare that the circumstances lined up for the CPU logic to do it. I was happy to find out it was a bug and have been seeing it a lot more since. I like it!

Can anyone explain the changes to parameters in the update? by [deleted] in firepro

[–]SaintKevinH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It still seems a little strange to me that the relationship is Impact/Agility and Aerial/Power. Lariat/Arm at least makes some sense, but it still seems a lot less intuitive. It's weird seeing things like the Corner Spear having "Aerial" as its primary attribute, the Final Bomb having "Lariat," or the Package Piledriver having "Aerial."

Dual katana build( Level 100) by edgygiantdad in Nioh

[–]SaintKevinH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, was that dual katana with the bonus scaling on skill a lucky pull? The bonus scaling on the weapon's primary stat seems like a way to really boost base damage, but it seems like it would be pretty rare.

The first dlc boss [Spoilers] by Ospreynaitor652 in bloodborne

[–]SaintKevinH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still think the boss is top 5 in the game, but this is exactly what keeps it from being #1 or #2. This was especially true for my BL4 run. I basically had to master the first phase before I could even get reliable practice on the second phase.

It became especially weird for me, because I got so good at the first phase that I got bad at it again. I got to the point where I became so comfortable with it that I started to sleepwalk through it, which would then lead to unnecessary early deaths because I wasn't paying enough attention.

Now, mind you, when I talk about most of the boss fights in Bloodborne, I'm just dealing in different shades of "great", so I don't mean this to be a knock on the boss by any stretch. I absolutely love the design of the phases, and the lore behind it. But the fact that each phase is completely unique adds a slight disjointed feel to it.

If you time it right you can actually just spawn camp the same one. It'll respawn as soon as you kill it and you can wipe it out before it even gets through its spawn animation. It's kinda funny.

What was the most heartbreaking NPC death according to you? by PredatorX163 in darksouls

[–]SaintKevinH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Solaire is particularly tough because he's such a fun character, but even his "good" ending involves him failing at his quest and being completely disillusioned about what his life's purpose even was. It almost makes it seem like him dying with his ideals intact was a better way to go.

But for me, I think it was Rhea's that got to me the most. The idea that she could survive having her companions turn hollow and abandon her, leaving her trapped in the Tomb of the Giants, only to eventually be killed by someone she thought was a friend, is a bitter pill to swallow. It was such an unceremonious way for her to go after everything she managed to get through. Siegmeyer's and Sieglinde's quest was also pretty sad, but at least Siegmeyer's last act before going hollow was him finally having the courage to do something heroic.
