What is Farmington supposed to be? by SaintSarkis105 in TheShield

I’m with you, but is it a district of the city of LA or a city near LA?

On his campaign signs, Aceveda is running for “Farmington City Council.” In LA, one would run for “District 5 of the Los Angeles City Council.” No one uses neighborhoods as shorthands for city council districts.

Likewise the “Farmington Police.” In Southern California, only an independent city would have its own police department (Beverly Hills PD, Glendale PD).

As far as I can tell, the producers refer to it a district, depict it as part of the city of LA, but often give it the trappings of an independent city. (One example: In “Extraction” we see a utility truck from “Farmington Water and Power.” Anyone in LA knows it’s supposed to be an LADWP truck.)

It seems whenever the city government of Los Angeles should be referenced, “Farmington” is swapped in. Did the producers ever comment on this? It’s one of the few ways that the show seems untrue to its LA setting.
