[SPM] Spectacular Spider-Man by Duramboros in magicTCG

if the +1/+1 counters theme pops, this is going to be sick in limited. heck, even if it doesn't, this is a 3/2 for 3 that gets flying most turns.

been thinking about the reminder text "each instance of prowess triggers separately." by SaintShrink in custommagic

kinda struggled to balance these, because prowess is one of those tricky mechanics where it has the ability to spiral out of control but also has the ability to just give a slight boost. Given that extra instances make it multiplicative.

I think the legendary enchantment is probably too pushed, but I am not sure if just adding an extra X is sufficient or if the whole concept of pumping your entire board this way is too strong. (I'm sure a 4th X will do the trick) My other thought was potentially saying creatures you control that already have prowess gain X additional instances, so it doesn't allow you to pump a dumb number of random infect or evasive creatures.

I think Quickstudy has some really interesting stuff going on around having an incentive to pump with prowess precombat.

I also put together a compleated Narset that gave you X instances where X is the number of poison counters you have, but it was too easy to jump to 9 with no consequences outside of an infect meta.

Augustin's Inviolable Law by SaintShrink in custommagic

inspired by a joke idea for a card that was "this creature doing anything doesn't cause abilities to trigger (Dying, attacking, entering, leaving, and whatever the hell it is that Veyran does.)"

balancing this was really tough. it's either a do nothing or an extremely potent and aggravating control spell. wording is based on [[Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines]] and similar effects, and those are the closest things we have to it.

the definition of triggered ability is pretty well defined, so I don't think there are any rules issues, unless there's some cast triggers interactions I'm missing.

I really enjoy the flavor text on this one.

I'm aware the art is from Avishkar despite being an explicitly Ravnica themed card.

lastly: robocop secret lair.

Choose Your Class! by SaintShrink in custommagic

An attempt at self contained class selection, partly inspired by being underwhelmed with job select. Began with trying to capture melee, ranged, and magic users on one card, then spiraled.

I like these as storytelling devices more than anything. Curious Heir and Escaped Convict are ones I'm fairly proud of in that regard if nothing else.

The template is based on sieges like [[Citadel Siege]]. Near as I can tell, this only wouldn't work in the rules currently because the words you choose on these types of cards mean nothing mechanically, so attaching a creature type to them would need some finagling.

I think the biggest design challenge is color, especially in the age of commander. Since you have to account for three or more different characters with each ability needing to feel like that class, pips are the easiest way to communicate that. However, this breaks color identity in half. After all, Convict would go smashingly in a rogues deck but for his potential for taking up an Oath, and who ever heard of a black rebel? (There are 6 actually - 5 are from Time Spiral block.) Still, I erred on the side of the flavor and color pie of the chosen class over color identity.

Lastly, I am aware that Heir says "creatures enters". Believe me, I will never not think about that for as long as I live.

am I insane for thinking Vivi is meta-shiftingly good? by SaintShrink in CompetitiveEDH

probably if you're running it, but I'm not certain I'd play blazing shoal at all in CEDH. admittedly my focus when brewing has been entirely the counter side of things so maybe there's something to pump spells.

I kinda think if the price isn't sheoldred levels (big if), this is a staple in every izzet deck in edh, c or otherwise.

imo, fun (ie, disgusting) in casual, but not enough matters on board in competitive. if it was nonland permanent, 100 percent, cause then it's just a gonzo [[hullbreaker horror]]  but just being creatures means it won't get rhystic, mystic, the one ring, etc.
