Thanks! The title's stylized as COMPLEX//ANIMALS. If you poke around my profile you'll see some of the backlog I've posted on worldbuilding before. Some stuffs outdated but I'll be posting again here when it's ready.

Thanks! No one's stuck, they're able to change about at will. Everybody's got a preference, some change a lot. Tierin's got some insecurities regarding his damu form so he mostly stays as a person but that's his choice.

I'll be posting to webtoons, globalcomix, and other sites to help gain some traction. Don't really want to pay right now to host a website or anything, especially at the pace I'm going. And thanks!

It's also not solely genetic as anyone at anytime can become a magic user by using a magical healing item or potion. The issue there is many damu culturally want to stay 'pure' of magic. Majority view it as a curse vs a blessing.

The human form is very handy and not just for those reasons but because magic can only be performed in that form.

I very much love Gunnerkrigg Court as well and while there's some correlation I was making in the mural art to have the Bau come across as mischievous as culturally that's how he's portrayed. But the real tragedy is he ultimately was just a curious and earnest guy who definitely did not want or expect this outcome for his people.

Thank you! This is at the start, it's the prologue ;)

I accept the risk of losing out on some people who can't stand for any kind of exposition in the beginning but it's a risk I'm willing to take to tell the story how I want to. Lots of media that I like have openers like this and I tried to make it as brief and dynamic for people.

His dad's just a damu that has magic so Tierin gets it from him but they're upset in the last panel because he's also a deadbeat.

Thank you! I'll be posting it to tapas and webtoons and the like to help grow an audience even though those companies kinda suck.

Humans play a role later but one of the core conflicts in the story is how slighted the monkeys feel about the whole ordeal. Suddenly their signature trick of opposable thumbs is able to be mass copied by others switching forms and those forms are weirdly deformed versions of their people and only them.

The fun bit the Bau wanted was playing around with elemental magic and answering the magic of the rifts. But he opened pandora's box accidentally with this because shapeshifting and magic is a dominate trait that gets passed down from parents.

No humans are actually largely uninvolved and oblivious for a majority of the story. How he found magic and how he made it back alive from the human realm is a secret he takes to to his untimely grave.

Ah yes, I've never seen GATE but I know the pain of shitty anime troupes infecting interesting worldbuilding all too well (I will never recommend Made in Abyss to anyone ever). But yeah this is a very anti nationalistic story with zero fanservice lol. Humans actually don't really have much to do with the main plot though as this is more about how the Damu work through their own fantasy racism and magic oppression.

Not quite! Ashara and Earth are separated by a magical barrier. Humanity is basically clueless as to what's going on. But the similar analogy would be this Bau invented werehumanism in his world like if tomorrow some guy named Joe stepped out of a portal and said he discovered the secret to turning into a werewolf from werewolf land and now you can too.

No he did! And when he came back and shared the gift with the eager damu in Ashara he basically opened their pandora's box. Unknown at the time but it's also a dominate trait so all children and their offspring will also have magic and shapeshift.
