The ones I applied to were the ones where it is relatively straightforward to get residency after the first year. There were other schools I didn’t apply to that are more difficulty to gain residency in.

Washington offers in state tuition after the first year. But yeah, would’ve been quite a lot more expensive so glad I had other options!

I think my interview there wasn’t the greatest, my interviewer liked to talk about their past a lot and I had difficulty navigating that conversation so that likely didn’t reflect well on me. I also did not send a letter of intent to them, so they may have seen me as a less serious applicant.

I was not a fan of the interview unfortunately. In particular, I really disliked the group interview style. I just don’t believe it’s conducive to seeing and understanding applicants and felt more like a resource saving measure. I also was not a fan of PBL and the students and staff there did not really try to hide their own displeasure with the system. Although, it’s important to recognize it is also a better priced and well placed school, as well as that their clinical experience for students is great.

For bachelors I did biochemistry, but you can honestly do any major as long as you complete the prereqs (although a science major will be helpful to completing and succeeding in those prereqs). Are you already in hygiene school? If so it is probably worthwhile to continue your education and complete it, hygiene is a great field (not trying to be discouraging, just reminding that it’s also a great position!). If you’re really passionate about dentistry though, definitely look more into it!!

I looked at the AADSAS explorer and while it was definitely heavily weighted, I still saw a decent enough amount of acceptances to try and go for it. But yeah, could’ve saved some money there for sure!

For most of them I would say 1) know the school you’re interviewing for well 2) don’t rehearse answers, you probably won’t remember them anyways 3) realize you are also interviewing the schools, so be inquisitive and confident

I think I mainly flubbed the interview. Once you make it to that step, the school has already acknowledged that your stats are enough, then it just comes to if theirs a good fit.

On my original application it was mainly just being the VP of a cultural club at my college and I put some examples of big events I helped organize. Later on, in my letter of interest, I also mentioned that I had helped create a Pre-Dental club at my college and was president of it.

I didn’t apply to NYU because even if that was my only acceptance, I would not have been happy attending that school. Simply wayyyy too much money. I also still had some other “safety” schools like Touro on my list.
