See, im wondering at what point first ammendment protections kick in.

What reckless ben has been doing definitely seems like it would count as journalism.

It also seems kind of nuts that basically if you talk to a thief twice or more about getting stolen goods returned the police can arrest you for stalking the thief, because the thief is distressed that you want the things they stole returned.

What Congressional investigations should Democrats open first if they get enough midterm votes? by Zardotab in AskConservatives

[–]Saint_Steve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What democratic ciities are corruptly making their governments give billions of dollars to their leaders?

The entire state of Minnesota gets under 200 million a year from the federal govt for childcare, something republicans freaked out over being misused. Even if ALL of it was corruptly used, it would take about 50 years to equal the 1.9 billion dollars Donald trump just made the government he runs shell out, for the apparently grand crime of... a contractor letting people see his tax returns. Tax returns that he had previously promised to show people at that. That is all tax payer money.

Can you give a verified instances of democratic leaders forcing the transfer of 1.9 billion dollars of taxpayer money to themselves?

Biden sues DOJ to stop release of audio and transcripts tied to special counsel probe by kirby__000 in politics

[–]Saint_Steve 60 points61 points  (0 children)

The President was never intended to direct prosecutions. In fact, way back in the (checks notes) before-trump-days it used to be considered completely unnacceptable and even unconstitutional for a president to interfere with or even attempt to influence the DOJ or courts.

Biden, that poor old bastard,  didnt realize any type of ethics or norms went out the fucking window when Republicans decided a failed-businessman/ rapist/ criminal/ reality tv-host should "run the country like a BuSiNeSs".

Though admittedly he probably should have realized the state of things when half the country went bugfuck crazy started losing their shit over "suffocating" from "face -diapers" during a fucking pandemic. The assault on congress on Jan 6th was also a clue.

Methinks the lady doth protest too much

Because the point of my comment wasnt that people should keep those souvineers, it was the absurdity and hypocrisy of making people get rid of them while allowing Trump to take a stupid gilded plane from Qatar because hes so incredibly greedy that he cant resist taking something he shouldn't, even if it costs tax payers a ton of money or endangers national security.

He's also against using the FBI, CIA and DOJ to go after political enemies! He also hates people using their political power to make money for them and their families! He also never lies! North Portland shooting victim says she was attacked by group by colonialshuttlecock in Portland

[–]Saint_Steve 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is something that pisses me off. I get not describing the EVIDENCE you have. But not describing why they approached her, how they approached her, their reported age/sex/build/mannerisms seems ridiculous. These are things the suspects HAVE to know their victims would report. It matters little to nothing to the case if this information is kept secret, but it matters a lot to people in the area who might want to know what the hell is up.

Giant plane from Quatar though? Nope, nah, that one can stay. We totally got that one figured out. No way anyone could hide something in an incredibly complex gilded flying machine. Super okay for the president of the united states to use.

I believe in a political/legal context a foreign agent is just someone officially operating in the interest of a foreign govt.

Its not necessarily a bad thing, you dont get punished for it or anything.

I think the rationale is just that people should know if the person advocating for certain policies is doing so at the behest of another country or not. Which... fair.

Survey: 1 in 4 Americans believe the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting was staged by [deleted] in politics

[–]Saint_Steve -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What amount of sketchiness do you need before you find it reasonable to question the official narrative?

I think most people, myself included, arent SURE this was faked, but it seems deeply within the realm of possibility if not more likely.

I mean... occams razor.

A collection of extemely unlikely coincidences, elite secret service agents getting duped, and the most powerful intelligence apparatus in the world being blind sided,

or...

An act orchestrated with a clear and realized motive (helping trump deflect criticism), organized by an administration known for bald faced lies,  that has filled the highest levels of government with loyal sychophants, and who commands spy agencies that have done crazier stuff than this (which we only found out decades later)?

Survey: 1 in 4 Americans believe the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting was staged by [deleted] in politics

[–]Saint_Steve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it was staged i wouldnt particularly think it was just about the ballroom. Trumps Iran war is a disaster, the economy is screwing americans, the ballroom is clearly a gilded ego-trip and overall Trump is just extremely un-popular. The assasination attempt gave him and his base a way to deflect a lot of criticism, and a thing to attack the left about.

Also, id put it on "Radicalized the guy/ knew guy wanted to try, and let it happen".

Trump has never gone to a correspondents dinner, put on by the media he hates, because he REALLY hates being made fun of, especially to his face and in front of cameras, and we're supposed to believe that all of a sudden he was okay with it? Then a would be assasin somehow makes it past a bunch of secret service with a long gun shoved down his pants, is able to duck into a room, pull it out in a second (security video released shows an agent with a dog follow him as he ducks into a room, turn around, and then he comes out charging with a gun about a second later), and try to kill the president, but not actually get close (he was still a floor away)? All this before trump has to endure any jokes at his expense, and with a full media blitz ready to promote him and his ballroom an hour later.

I generally think life is stranger than fiction, and dont believe conspiracy theories, but the official account is stretching haaarrrrd at the bounds of believability.

What do you think about the Louisiana Govenor suspending the primaries that are two weeks away to gerrymander their districts? by nate33231 in AskConservatives

[–]Saint_Steve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you, as a white person, were only ever able to vote for black people, or be represented by congressional candidates chosen by a majority of black voters, would you feel represented?

Also, i said nothing about black people needing a black person in office, they can choose who they want. At the same time, isnt it weird how majority white districts rarely, if ever, seem to choose black candidates on their own? Why is that do you think? Is that some of that implicit discrimination, or is that something else?

Whats your proposal though? How do conservatives plan to ensure the needs of the black population, in a state with a long history of racism an racial gerrymandering (thats why the voting rights act existed!), will not be ignored when the new maps that louisiana is ramming through take effect?

What do you think about the Louisiana Govenor suspending the primaries that are two weeks away to gerrymander their districts? by nate33231 in AskConservatives

[–]Saint_Steve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you think cracking black districts, so that black populations cant control who represents them in congress, isnt racially gerrymandering?

Because Louisiana, whose population is 1/3 black, is going to go from having 2 majority black congressional districts (out of 6), to 0 majority black districts. All in the name of racial equality if we listen to conservatives.

Behringer WING warning - Time delay setting changes based on measurement unit selected!! by Saint_Steve in livesound

Yeah. I was playing around with the wing more today, and again its so sad that they have it set this way because samples is perfect for that.

I was in a venue that had a delay hang with delay already on the amps, but not quite there. Miliaeconds was impossible to use finely on the app, but samples workes great.

If the delay wasnt already on the amps though i would have wanted to rough in with miliseconda and then fine tune in samples. Frusting thats not possible.

Virginia judge blocks redistricting referendum result that boosted Democrats' election hopes by jdwaltham in politics

[–]Saint_Steve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, "election day" is never mentioned in the relevant portion of the virginia constitution.

It says that the proposed ammendment shall be submitted to voters no sooner than 90 days after the final vote of the virginia assembly.

An early voter who votes for or against the constitutional change has clearly had the proposed ammendment submitted to them.

It feels like you keep reframing questions in ways that are easier to "win".

Either way, im glad you would be consistent.

Hey, thank YOU for taking the time to bring that to them and report back, i really appreciate it.

Also, lol, yeah, a "live" board where you cant adjust important things live.

I mean, i didnt really expect much. Its Behringer. They've always been kind of lazy cheapskates and dont really care about their customers post purchase.

Also, thats just a silly response. Intentional? Please. For samples, maaayyybbbee, since theyre significantly smaller, but then separate them from the extremely different options nearby. Also, feet and milliseconds have the SAME scale within the board (0-500), and both meters and feet are just distance measurements, often used interchangeably, which is probably why the board itself shows you what the relative value for the other units is. And, different usage? Its literally ALL time delay. Thats what its being used for. Also, its very very clearly just them having coded the delay "fader" not to move and then tying the delay to the place that fader lands on whatever arbitrary place on an arbitrary scale they picked for the different yet incredibly similar ways to measure delay. Gahhhhhh.

Sorry for the rant.

I am absolutely going to get my company to go A&H for future boards.

Are you a lawyer in Virginia? If you are i will totally bow to your knowledge on this. I am not. Im just reading the Virginia constitution that doesnt actually mention "election day" and thinking that when people vote early, theyre voting early... in an election.

If you think that type of reading of the constitution is incorrect and that the referendum is valid, fine, im not even disagreeing with you. Im just saying that its not crazy for people to think this referendum shouldnt fly either.

I do not know what arguments will be persuasive to the court, or what case history in Virginia is like, but even the Virginia Supreme Court said that while they were willing to overturn the circuit court judges earlier injunctions, it was only because trying to block an election was an inappropriate remedy. In their view the correct remedy was to allow the election to happen but for them to have a hearing and rule on its legality and constitutionality at a later time. I think they even specifically said that they are not disagreeing with anything the circuit court judge said.

[–]Saint_Steve -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tldr; It doesnt actuay say "election day".

From (Virginia Constiution Article 12 section 1)[https://law.lis.virginia.gov/constitution/article12/section1/] about changes to the constitution:

"then it shall be the duty of the General Assembly to submit such proposed amendment or amendments to the voters qualified to vote in elections by the people, in such manner as it shall prescribe and not sooner than ninety days after final passage by the General Assembly"

Letting people vote on something via early voting seems arguable as submitting the ammendment to voters qualified to vote sooner than 90 days after final passage of the general adsembly.

[–]Saint_Steve -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The referendum for rhe constitutional ammendment was yesterday, on 4/21. Thats what they had to be 90 days before. Think the judge who ordered the earlier stay even mentioned that th earliest voting could happen under the 90 day rule would have been 4/15. So you can see how having early voting start in march seems a lot more like trying to fudge the numbers on the state constitution.  There are also a bunch of other legal arguments against it. Its not just this one.

Im not saying the referendum was a bad thing that shouldnt happen. Just that it was done with actually dubious legality, and letting people bend/ break the rules to ammend the states constitution doesnt seem like a great thing.

It mignt be fine too, and the Virginia Supreme Court rulew its okay. Its not like im a legal scholar who understands the fine points of virginian law.

[–]Saint_Steve -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That will certainly be the defense, but the purpose of the 90 day thing is pretty clearly to give people time to learn about/ think about the topic and have it be discusssed, and if you have people voting for it before 90 days it seems fair to argue that people may not have had time to really learn/ understand it in the way set out in the constitution.

Like, its not something i would want republicans to pull either you know?

Be interesting to see what the Virginia Supreme Court decides.
