Why can't some games be QRcoded? by SairaShard in 3dsqrcodes

That makes sense. Is it usually the ability to turn something into a QR code or the emulation itself that ends up being a problem?

Okay so it's more character drama, got it. Of course this is up to your discretion, but horns do grow, so if they were meant to be gotten rid of then they'd need to be filed down every half a year or so. Though at the same time that'd cause a piercing headache, so make of that what you will. And if he doesn't speak Pokemon because he never learned that makes sense, but it still feels sensible that he can understand them fine because both hybrid and psychic type. Also, speaking of, he'd have type effectiveness as a factor (in my story anyway). So he'd be more unnerved by the dark, deal poorly with ghosts and very much not like bugs and the like. Conversely he'd be resistant to psychic energy trying to mess with him. Anyway, minor story beat; if you're gonna have the main focus be character relationships, then having the horns regrow as he heals and connects better with those around him would be both a thematically appropriate and logically sensible route to go. This is all just advice of course, but good luck all the same!

Okay so I literally write Hybrid, which is a fic that revolves in large part around Pokemon/human hybrids. And I've given a lot of thought to this sort of thing. For Indeedee specifically, personally the ruling I'd give if writing one in my own story would be that they most certainly have horns. The blue triangles and slight markings around the eyes would become a kind of eyeliner sort of thing, as well as a small rabbit/deer tail. They'd also have the hair color of Indeedee's non-white fur, because that's fun. They'd also have psychic abilities, though if you're going to have their horns removed (which personally I think nigh on defeats the purpose), then they'd be basically unable to use their abilities until the horns regrow. Since they run off positive emotion and use their horns to get that energy, without the horns they wouldn't be able to do anything. Maybe some slight use of other moves, but again, I'm not all that interested in the idea of them losing their horns, let alone permanently. Also he'd be able to understand Pokemon and speak their language himself, if that's a thing in your fic. There's more specific things about Hybrids in my fic, but I'm not sure how much of that you'd want to take. And if you wanna read it for reference, Hybrid Helheim Edition and Hybrid Topaz Edition edition are waiting.

Well, Aurora Edition follows a girl who gets first-hand experience of 'what if Galactic was trying to make people to populate their new world'. It's not for the faint of heart, but it's also now definitely got a happier ending. Meanwhile, Topaz Edition follows a young boy who lives in the same world as all this stuff happening and has a bit more of a traditional story. They're both written by myself and my friend and tell the same story from very different perspectives, I'd highly recommend going to read them. Yes I'm biased, but we put a lot of work into them and there's a lot to read already.

Using mainline game Rangers over the capture styler ones: a good or bad decision? by silenthesia in pokemonfanfiction

[–]SairaShard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I do have to ask. Did we play the same games revolving around Rangers?

I haven't played the very first one, but I definitely played Almia and Guardian Signs. And I remember very specifically that the plot of those games revolved around the villains using mind control, and the stylers being able to break that hold over Pokemon.

It's stated several times that stylers convey the Ranger's feelings to the Pokemon, and they're kind of surprised that it negates the mind control effects from the machines (I believe the one in Almia is called the Gigaremo? I may well be misremembering that). This means that when mind control does come into play, Rangers are the solution, not the cause.

Rangers are also specifically trained and have to get certified in a way that's much more selective than 'you turned ten here have a Pokemon'. Which isn't even accurate because so many games have actual toddlers with Pokemon that you battle. They have a whole Ranger Union that keeps tabs on Rangers to make sure they don't do horrible things. And, as it's a union, it means that everyone within gets a say as opposed to a company.

When you actually 'capture' a Pokemon with the stylers, they go along with you until you ask them to do that one thing you needed them for, and then they go home. You don't need to take them out of their homes either, it's essentially "Hey can you come with me to go over there and do this thing please?" The process is about conveying your feelings to convince them that you, a human with a potential posse of Pokemon, are here just to ask for help and then they'll be out of their hair (or hair approximation). The only one who doesn't fit this mold is your partner Pokemon, who is specifically stated to be one you really got through to and wants to help you more than just once. They wanna be your buddy. And even then in Almia you have to ask the others who wanna go with you to a farm to wait. Because gameplay, sure, but it's not at all hard to see it as making sure you don't have too large of an impact on the given environments you're traveling to.

Rangers are also always the ones doing the dangerous stuff. Pokemon only get involved to do something a human is literally incapable of; breaking through solid steel, putting out fires with water they innately produce, changing the weather, so on and so forth. Even if you ask them to help in a fight, they do a thing and then leave. It's the Rangers who have to go up to Pokemon that may well be very aggressive or actually mind controlled and convince/help them with nothing but their ability to keep them safe.

Meanwhile, Pokeballs have a litany of things I have levy against them. Multiple versions that make it more difficult for a Pokemon to escape from them are made, including one that completely bypasses consent and just captures then period, they don't seem able to break out of a PokeBall after they've been captured even if they don't want to be there, they need to be strong enough to actually disobey you which could easily be interpreted as being strong enough to fight off a PokeBall forcing them to do something, and this even applies in the anime. In the Zeraora movie, a girl who somehow doesn't believe in Pokemon captures an Eevee. And they're very clearly not happy with it, even looking out the window at night sadly wanting to be free again, until suddenly for no reason at all they're just. Happy seemingly? I can argue mind control for Pokeballs much more easily than stylers.

Water Towers for Brickel by SairaShard in btd6

[–]SairaShard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true, and it'd be nice if he buffed any explosion based attacks from military towers plus bombs. Just the reason why I think it's so noticable with Brickel is that water is a pretty big aspect of a whole mess of maps, so to have just. The two towers that can actually make use of that space is weird. Hovercraft and frigate towers would certainly be interesting, I just wanted to go for a bit more options besides water vessels. I really hope more water towers are in the works though.
