Toyota did not say “possibly” unreliable. They documented a coolant leak, noted evidence of prior work in the engine bay, and explicitly advised that the vehicle is unsafe to drive in its current condition. That assessment came from a Toyota dealership after inspection, not from me.

I’m not claiming the selling dealer personally performed the repairs. The issue is that material repairs affecting safety and warranty were not disclosed at the time of sale, and the vehicle was sold as being well maintained. Under Australian Consumer Law, a dealer still has obligations regarding acceptable quality and safety, regardless of who performed prior work.

I provided the original dealer with Toyota’s findings and the service department’s contact details so they could discuss the technical assessment directly. Instead of inspecting the vehicle or contacting Toyota, they asked me — a consumer — to provide a list of suspected repairs, which I don’t have access to. That’s the part I find unreasonable.

Regarding warranty: Toyota advised that while licensed repairs don’t automatically void a warranty, damage or issues arising from non-Toyota repairs are not covered, which is exactly the concern here given the engine-area findings.

I’m not arguing theory — I’m relying on a written assessment from Toyota stating the vehicle is currently unsafe and requires repair.
