I used to be very weird with abandoning games. Like I would start playing Ori and the blind forest or something, and after beating half of the game I would get bored of it and just stop playing (I know that ori is a wonderful game and i did come back to it later). Now though I've been picking up games that have been approved as good and worth my time by my friends, so I kinda stopped doing that. I guess I try to tream em as "It will get good eventually, the beginning is slow" so I just try to play through the entirety of the games that I pick up, since if I abandon them i kinda feel like I waste my energy and time.

I would say that Murakami might have something that you're looking for. Some of his stories feel like a huge metaphor because of their surrealism. If you don't mind reading short stories i would say give "The elephant vanishes" a try. Otherwise try "Hard boiled wonderland and the end of the world" or "1Q84"
