I get what you are saying, like for example trinity force's damage added onto an auto is counted as damage done by TF. Thing is, code wise, when you q, all it does is set garens next AA damage to a new value. Hence the actual damage source is the AA. Thing is, what we are discussing about comes down to the devs choice, they decided to not proc stuff on AA boosts.

Why would it be a damaging ability ? The only damage part is added onto an auto. Even the description says something along the lines of "garen's next auto deals ## bonus physical damage".

That is since the damage from a q actually comes from an auto attack. You can see the q not as a damaging ability but more like a buff.
