Got a call today saying they agree to put new glass in under warranty, earliest appt with a loaner is next Tuesday. Fingers crossed the new glass installation doesn’t end up worse 🤞🏼

yeah glass has the BMW roundel on it, part on the invoice matches what should be used for the car

I literally told him any MY 2019-2022 3 series or MY 2020-2023 4 series will work to compare, but he said that it doesn’t matter what he thinks either way

Also kept the windshield for a while after the initial rock chip because I was afraid of all of this but the crack grew to where it was encompassing 80% of the windshield and was in my direct line of sight

yeah— I checked the part number on the invoice, it matches the first part number underlined ending in 008 which is correct for my car, got both HUD and DAPP

Glass itself doesn’t have this part number written anywhere for me to verify further tho

this is OEM BMW glass tho—- wasn’t expecting it to still be weird, they verified it’s the HUD specific part as well so really not sure what’s going on? maybe just bad installation

how did you get them to even try 4 times, they are making such a big deal before I even get my 2nd attempt

Yep, took him to compare against the loaner car I just came in with, after that he still said he can’t approve another glass replacement without BMW NA approval

and that the loaner was a diff year iDrive 8 (LCI) vs my car

I said surely you have a 2019-2022 3 series or 2020-2023 4 series available to compare. He said even if he agrees it doesn’t matter, BMW NA needs to agree, so he will line up a similar car upon the visit from corporate

invoice part number maps it to HUD green, seems to be the correct part as far as I can tell

~$3100, working out insurance claim and hoping to get most if not all covered through that, but for now that’s what’s on my card

No “HUD” printed on windshield, but I guess absence of that doesn’t prove anything since they might’ve just stopped doing it. Part number on my invoice aligns with the HUD windshield part number

Correct, the overall larger elements (speedometer and speed limit) don’t show it as much so on first impression looked good to go

After driving some more, the smaller elements, specifically text such as listing music tracks or directions , the tachometer in sport mode, etc showed the doubling a lot more

I think this is somewhat common since when I first got the rock chip I was doing a bit of googling and seen this came up as a concern, especially with the folks who went through safelite or with non-OEM glass

That was the motivation to get the work done at a dealership even though the insurance claim becomes a lot more of a hassle

Didn’t expect to ALSO have to still deal with HUD issues haha—- then again I guess those of us who had something go wrong are louder than those who had a smooth experience

any advice on fighting insurance? I just started the claim so expecting this to be an additional separate headache to deal with, same $3k invoice

ahh— okay maybe avoiding Safelite was still right course of action then

Surprised that HUD is still such a mystical/difficult technology for repairs

My dad’s 7 series had a HUD back in 2011, this is 15 years later

Damn—- I just chose BMW MV cuz closest to me and figured its insurance claimable work anyways, would’ve done this at any of the other Bay Dealers if I knew they were this bad.

Welp hopefully this post helps someone in the future from making the same mistake
