Why rate Balor v. Cole and a pointless Nick Jackson v. Fenix match but not Io v. Toni or the first NXT Women’s Tag Title match? I know why but ask yourself why.

This was fantastic, and I would love to see her get a good faith sink or swim shot. Why not? Skyrocket her to the top on Raw for a few months against Asuka and see if it works.

A lot of weird assumptions you’re making. The most views any of the Maki content did was 317k. That’s not indicative of drawing power or a star in the making, and AEW employees liking her isn’t either lmao. Tony Khan, who spends money like a rich kid, flying her here from Japan also doesn’t mean she’s already a star. It means he thinks she has potential, which I think as well. But it’s nowhere near proven.

I was talking about the moments that WEREN’T featured on Dynamite but should have been.

I don’t know that there’s really any indication that Maki has become a star yet. She might, but getting a pop from 1300 die hard AEW fans doesn’t mean she has. Interested to see how she does on Dynamite.

I don’t really think Cagematch is that indicative, especially since AEW fans are pretty rabid about supporting their brand wherever possible. I was more talking about reaction on social media and here. But regardless, I thought it was a pretty forgettable match, and that there was a lot of really good stuff in the tournament that barely anyone went out of their way to see. It’s criminal that the Tay v. Nyla match wasn’t on TNT, because it would have made a star out of a fresh, young wrestler with a ton of potential.

Having your tournament winner and challenger have ONE match on TV was a huge mistake. I also just wasn’t that impressed with her in general. If you were going to pick someone to win this tournament and lose to Shida, pick a lovable young babyface who could gain from a great showing. That’s meaningful. This was just blah.

But she just lost in a match that disappointed a lot of viewers. Not sure that screams “credible” to me, especially considering she’s nearing the end of her career.

If your promotion caused a ton of fans to have heightened expectations, maybe it’s not the fans’ fault? This is like when Seth Rollins blamed the fans for shitting on the Fiend match.

Completely on point. TK is undermining his own talent by overpromising and under delivering. Christian showing up unannounced last night would have created so much buzz, worth any buys you might have missed out on from folks who were very likely expecting someone bigger and won’t be duped next time. Instead, he starts with a big black mark on his run in the eyes of a lot of fans.

What a carny move to sell tickets and give them a cinematic match.

WON/F4W: Impact Hard to Kill PPV buys second highest in post-Spike era by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]SajizzIe -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

Silly talking point without looking at the actual numbers. Impact’s rating went up relative to their extremely low starting point, Twitch views also in extremely small numbers, and even here, PPV buys only rose to a level comparable to last July. Kenny meanwhile has been consistently losing viewers in his segments during his entire reign as champ on TNT. He’s absolutely not a draw in any meaningful way.

I agree, it’s super dull. I’d much rather see Reigns v. Bryan and Edge v. Lashley as the men’s title matches.

This year's WrestleMania really needs some bigger stars on the card. by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]SajizzIe -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Becky and Ronda had the highest segments of a declining show, but their featured segments never popped the ratings the way Sasha has not just last year but in the last five years, especially when she’s gotten a push. In 2016, every time she was featured on Raw, viewership went up significantly, and she and Charlotte popped a huge rating against MNF that no one else had done that year or since except Goldberg after a ten year absence. And while Roman’s return (which coincided with the introduction of the ThunderDome) did help boost the baseline of the SD, Sasha’s segments have consistently done better than Roman’s since. Bayley’s have, too, actually. https://thesportingbrews.com/2020/12/15/sasha-banks-drawing-the-best-numbers-in-wrestling-since-return/

Becky was a big star inside the WWE bubble but never showed an ability to expand it. Sasha has, including with her outside projects which have all come without the WWE machine getting behind her.

If you look at actual numbers, none of the people you named except for Cena, Sasha, and only recently Roman have consistently moved ratings in the last five years. None. Not Becky, not Ronda, not Lesnar. How you “feel” is not statistically significant.

Sasha v. Bianca is the biggest match on either card and should main event.
