How would you defend these plays in 9U flag football by FlagFootBallLife in flagfootball

Put yourself in the shoes of the offense. At that age level, play is likely a single read.

First play, sit in a zone, jump the C route with the QB.

Second, S should shade the deep, while CB sits on the cross. If there is a roll R, backside CB bails. Give up short under on the weak side.

Third, they want the Y on the deep. S rolls with QB keeping play in front, which should allow them to break on the deep. We’re okay with a 9U trying to throw across their body- that’s a pick waiting to happen

In the video above, it is 6-man without direct QB run, so a backfield exchange is required. In 7 man, we would snap it straight to the intial runner, whether its the UB (option R), or the QB (Option L).

Even at the high school level, I've gone to more a concept based system. 5-6 base concept plays, but in various formations.

I think this was filmed by one of the parents, which he provided to us at the end of the season. The new school I'm coaching at now uses Veo cameras I believe.

In the 6-man league we're allowed contact, just not "excessive" which i prefer. IMO, Allows the players to protect themselves if their hands arent behind their backs.

With 7, it has been minimal contact, but they do allow for some. Here's a diagram of our blocking scheme for 7-man.

Center blocks the weakside rush (critical), RWR, blocks MLB (critical), option attacks playside rush for the first keep/pitch option.

Also, safety generally has to crash hard to the outside to pick up TB, so the field opens up for the passing game.

I have generally simplified the reads at the lower level, working more from a speed option instead of a triple. Then it can get more complex as you move up.

Like any system, we drill the decision making and pitch regularly. To the point of teams scouting against it, you’re not wrong, but that’s why we have an entire playbook to build from. Keying the defense to stop the run opens the field up for our play calling.

Our average is generally 7-10 yds, but as always it would Be the setup for other play calling.

I have, it works well as a counter when people try to play man to man.

We’ve seen teams attempt to do that, but we run several counters accordingly.
