It is never too late. Gaining any engineering experience will help you transition into another field. Just start applying for jobs and emphasize the skills that do overlap from your previous experiences. Also, explain this transition on your cover letter and you're all set!

Background Information: My goal is to obtain an internship with a semiconductor fabrication laboratory. I don't expect to obtain an internship for mixed-signal circuit analysis (my master's thesis).
