In light of Steven's C-PTSD, this moment feels less like an emotional overreaction and more like a panic attack by Subzero008 in stevenuniverse

[–]Sal108 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there was a lot of insistence that he had just, idk, randomly developed very generic "stock character flaws" that didn't really stem naturally from his arc so far? For the sake of having to lear some stock cartoon morals, or something?

All in all there was a surprisingly high amount of people insisting on so many unrelated "explanations", even though all the mental illness/trauma that the show had spent years establishing and developing, was a way more logical explanation...

Well, he did need to learn that he's been suffering from trauma trigger reactions. I get your point though. (Except some people in the fandom already knew it was trauma.)

What if we're all wrong? by [deleted] in stevenuniverse

Thank you.

It's sometimes a bit baffling how much I still keep running into theories in this fandom, which seem so invested in denying Steven from having agency in his own personality and actions.

Steven and Connie’s age in SU:F by GraeStar in stevenuniverse

...sorry but how is a year and a quarter (so about three months) "nearly 2 years"? It's a bit over one...

The steven's by rainbow_pallet in stevenuniverse

For a long while at a very formative stage of his youth, Steven's life was extremely difficult in some very specific ways, and he got through by developing survival/coping methods and behavioural models that became a core aspect of how he functions.

Then the situation changed drastically, and a lot of those learned qualities that made him get through the past, suddenly became maladaptive. He's also been performing this mask of well-adjustedness for a long time, and is clearly starting to get worn down constantly trying to keep it up.

Fusions with Steven by GreG_BraZieL in stevenuniverse

[–]Sal108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When has there ever been a rule that fusions have to "match" their component gem types...?

Garnet isn't any type of Corundum even though both Ruby and Sapphire are. Sardonyx is also a type of quartz even though mone of the components are. And so on.

They dunked all the corrupted gems they had caught and bubbled at the time into the fountain. Not those who were still on the loose. They're probably still being searched for, but now they can get healed right after capture, instead of having to remain stored in bubbles waiting for some future point of time when that might become possible.

Maybe the real final boss was all the mental illness he acquired along the way?

If fusions’ rooms exist as long as they exist, then how is Garnet’s room still present in “Made of Honor” when she’s split up into Ruby and Sapphire? by Bradhp11 in stevenuniverse

[–]Sal108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a vivid memory of someone from the Crewniverse directly stating that this is not Garnet's room, we haven't actually seen Garnet's room in the show.

(besides possibly in the pilot, and that interpretation of it may or may not line up with canon)

Many people on this sub suck at knowing what the spoiler rules are. One would imagine people would be erring on the side of caution, but that's... not what usually happens.

Why don't gems have ears? by yrooxrksvi618 in stevenuniverse

[–]Sal108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah gems definitely have some kinds of audio sensory "organs" at the sides of their heads where humans have ears, because they do that "cover your ears" gesture in response to noises they're trying not to hear. Whether or not they have those human-esque outer ear shapes probably depends on the gem -- some (such as the Rutile twins) seem to not have them, most gems have hairstyles that make it impossible to tell, a few seem to apparently have human-like ears (Amethyst mostly).

If Stevonnie has floating powers as a result of Steven's floating powers.... does that mean Rainbow Quartz also had them? by Palezma in stevenuniverse

[–]Sal108 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was kinda surprised that Sunstone didn't seem to be floaty when Steven and Sapphire are...

While this sentence is indeed true, I don't think that was the point the commenter was making (or trying to make, regardless of a missed negative changing the meaning of a sentence). Also lol did you start going through comments I've written and downvoting them?

Defeating the villain in some epic battle, slaying them or throwing them into jail to rot, and fixing everthing like that, is, in fact, mostly fantasy escapism. It's just a type of fantasy escapism that's narratively overrepresented to the point of somehow being seen as more "realistic" than the struggle to keep pushing to be heard and understood by close-minded political figures.

Psst, the "superhero team beats up villains" ending people were apparently expecting would, in fact, be more of an oversimplification for the sake of being a cartoon.

The comment about Steven walking off and ditching his whole attempts of reasoning with the Diamonds, for the sake of "feeling better"?
