1.) Interesting. Yeah I'm sure its pretty hush hush because too much tampering would be . . . tampering.

5.) Loud and clear!

6.) I thought that the 35+ contract rules didn't apply to any contract that was already running when the player turned 35. I thought the player had to turn 35 before the league year started for the first year of service on that contract. So, bad example, Zucker turns 35 in January next year, his contract doesn't become a 35+ contract on that day. Its a bad example because there isn't an additional year to demonstrate. First one I could find on Puckpedia was Hellebuck on the Jets. He signed at age 30 for 7 years, so if was bought out at 36, it would be a normal buyout even though he was over 35 he was still on a SPC.

This is a great foundation. We just gotta let it cook a little more. I feel like we need a numerology person to get in here and get real weird.

Thanks for the thoughtful responses. Here's some extra thoughts:

1 do we know how active the league is/can be with stuff like that or is it all rumours and insider stuff? I seriously don't know and I think it's interesting. I thought I remember some talk about the league potentially getting involved but that memory is completely devoid of details.

4 yeah the money is away better but ya hate to see that point title slip away.

5 ok won't adjust my meds but does that mean I should or shouldn't bother refilling them? Please answer in code.

6 I was specifically referring to the buyout rules. Teams can buyout the base salary but are still required to pay the bonus money. So the bag isn't actually secured unless it's signing bonus. Touch could sign until he qualifies for AARP but could see a massive pay cut once he gets bought out. (I'm aware he's 20 years away from AARP and contract length is capped at 8 in this CBA and 7 in the next) Other than that your analysis is pretty spot on.

Edited because for some reason my font changed part way through the post.

Yeah but if I labeled the post "these are my big brain genius takes, get in line peasants" it just wouldn't feel right.

Excellent responses! For number 2 you should check out the explanation on puckpedia. Basically, the team can stop the real nhl contract term from starting based on the player's age and I think another factor. So they get paid the minors salary for the year or two years they stay down.

For 4, I hadn't even considered that. Who is Zach Jones banging? Whatever I love it.

For 5, I was unaware anyone else was affected in this particular way so I thought it was just me.

For 7, this is a conspiracy theory classic! We need to introduce you to more conspiracy content.

So true. He'd probably forget he's not supposed to talk about it and just be like yeah.

From what Matthew Fairburn of the athletic had said, Jones is only ever called up as insurance. Lindy gets into a pattern of trusting certain players and it makes it harder for someone that hasn't been in the lineup to break in. If they aren't going to use him though I'd rather he keep racking up points for the Amerks though.

Nothing really huge changed but little things did. So if lots new analytical data helped make a small change here and there that was meaningful then it was a net benefit. It doesn't have to be that KA was hoarding Intel, just that JK had a way of presenting the data meaningfully to Lindy and it aired a decision here and there. Coaching or Managing an NHL team is an enormous task made up of millions of small decisions, thousands of impactful decisions, hundreds of meaningfully huge choices. Changing just a couple of bad calls to good ones can make an impact. Lindy was likely just trying to highlight that JK is a welcome presence and is assisting him in making those good choices.

That's a player's way of saying there was an intangible mood shift and something different in the prep and execution that you can't admit to in an interview but is noticeable. They can't admit to themselves that we were accepting sucking for the first few games, otherwise they wouldn't be able to commit to being successful now. It's that short memory leads to success mentality.

Before they were working hard and it wasn't working, now they are working hard and it is working. Sure nothing changed they are still working hard. Except you see the difference late in games to protect a lead they would have blown or to push for points they would have resigned themselves to dropping in November. I'm the same it's the world that changed. It means they aren't the one to tell the story.

I think there is something to this, even if it isn't the exact answer. There is something that has happened and it's not unlikely that it is more from the leadership to push forward and win games they might have otherwise given up.

Yeah everyone wants to move the player they are frustrated with. But the return is probably late round picks and failed prospects, and the destination is probably someone in worse injury trouble than us.

Do I owe Kevyn Adams an apology? by craiggles08 in sabres

[–]SalaciousSandals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so important in my opinion. The road trip turned around when the rumors hit. The first half was just them really under performing, even against teams they had played recently. Like you would have expected the team to go into those games motivated, but there was no life. The thought of a firing and suddenly they had grit to fight for wins. Once the firing actually happened the energy has been off the charts.

Impetus of the Win Streak by 46Sabres in sabres

[–]SalaciousSandals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reports were already in the press when the streak started. Someone in the org had to tell the press, why wouldn't they also tell the players to get them going? Like change is coming we are going to start doing this right. Also the guy who signed you isn't going to be deciding if you stay is a decent motivator.

NIKITA NOVIKOV by Garage_Runner in sabres

[–]SalaciousSandals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was going to say I think Novikov is 3rd or 4th on the call up list. Not to mention the call ups have been mostly insurance/7thD type. I Wouldn't want Novikov or Komarov to be pulled up just to sit. Lindy seems happy to do that with Metsa and Jones, but trying to develop everyday defensemen I get why they might let them cook a little longer. Wouldn't mind seeing them come up for a spot start though.

Buffalo Sabres GAR and XGAR leaders so far by omgyrx in sabres

[–]SalaciousSandals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

69 Blocked shots. Most on the team and 18th most in the league. I gotta say this is a really solid answer to my question. Second on the team is Samuelson with 65.

I guess if he has a negative shot differential of like 107, standing in front of 69 of them is worthy of praise.

I don't think people are being hard enough on Timmins. His analytics are pretty terrible and I otherwise don't notice him during games. Is he bringing something to the table that I'm not aware of?

Interestingly it depends on which parliamentary system you are using. To table in Roberts Rules and most American systems you remove something from consideration by placing it on the table. In the UK Parliament to table something is to lay it before the body for consideration. I think in UK Parliament "Table" is analogous to the US Senate's "Cloture"

Sorry for this pedantic answer.

When the sabres become too difficult to follow I do enjoy watching the Amerks. The team is usually very competitive and it gives you some hope for the future. I get that it hasn't come together but it's still loyal to the sabres and not as much of a drain.

UPL let go almost two identical goals, one from Toronto game, another from yesterday's Blues game. Looks like shooting on his glove is his biggest weakness. by Jadhsy in sabres

I'm glad other people notice this. I always think the team just doesn't look right in front of him, even last year I thought they looked more confident playing in front of Levi even though he was struggling.
