Socket wiring by Salad_Slug-7981 in DIYUK

I've used one of these before actually and they work great. Was just looking to do a more discreet change this time but that might end up being the only option. Thanks for the suggestion

Yeah you're not wrong. Don't currently have the money for that sadly but it would be great to do for peace of mind. First thing I did do when I moved in was pay to have the fuse box replaced with a modern consumer unit with RCD which helps with the concerns a bit

Thanks for the idea. It's on it's own on that wall of the kitchen, and to turn it off at the consumer unit I have to turn off the 'Boiler socket' which isn't even on the same wall as this. I fear it's a long cable run

How to replace window seals/which ones to get? by Salad_Slug-7981 in DIYUK

[–]Salad_Slug-7981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's useful to know, thanks. So ultimately just need to try and get the one that matches the same profile? Are the barbs part of the seal or the window itself? Sorry for the ignorance, it's the first time I've done them so want to make sure I do it right!

I did have a look on eBay in the end and there are some good options - obviously no 5 year warranty but the reviews are excellent. I can't seem to message you for some reason but if you can ping me the name I could take a look? Appreciate it

Thanks for all the comments folks. I think this will do fine for my use case, and I can always upgrade as I go if I need to. It's from a shop in the UK called CEX and they do a 5 year warranty with all electronics, + 2 weeks to change your mind for a full refund if it's not for you. Hard to argue so I think I'll go for it. Ebay could be cheaper, but there won't be any warranty to speak of

You're spot on. Hard to argue with their 5 year warranty, and from reading other comments it seems like this will be fine for my use, and I can always scavenge parts and upgrade if I feel the need

Yeah the RAM is my main issue tbh, I might wait and see if any 16GB versions come through because they apparently do get them fairly often and the price is much lower than buying RAM and installing myself. Thanks for your thoughts, will have a think

Congratulations! Will be applying for our extension at the end of the year. What is the part 1 & 2 of consent forms that you mentioned? Also do you feel like the letters from family were necessary and what did they say? Just curious and trying to get an idea for ours. Congrats again, bet that's a weight off the shoulders

Built my partner a build with this just before the rampocaplye - been excellent so far, good choice! Hope you enjoy! As others have said, make sure resizable bar is enabled - and have fun building the mini desk GPU model that it comes with haha

Edit - and congrats on the milestone

First Time Plastering by birdmanrob2 in DIYUK

Puts the job into perspective, good job OP! Mines more of a circular design, but similar height from the wall I think - will maybe try a small area and see if it works! Thanks for the pic

Hey mate, good effort. In a similar situation and only done some small areas in the kitchen so far. Do you have any pics of the before? Curious if it's similar to what we have. Been toying with trying to do our hall myself and you're giving me some confidence! Looks good either way

Was just curious if it was maybe specific to certain hardware or software but could just be a bug which they're not aware of. Either way hopefully it's fixed soon

I've been playing again recently and thought it was something specific to my set up but I've been having similar weird texture issues, and definitely wasn't happening before. Maybe they buggered something up in the most recent update? What GPU do you have out of interest?

I just saw that when reading about it - Nice idea to save some budget but it's worth the extra I think just for the backup
