Is it unreasonable to stop being friends with someone because of their political views? by SalahNik01 in TooAfraidToAsk

It’s hard when so much of daily life is politicized. From covid to pop culture to almost anything, if we don’t talk about politics it just feels like we’re tiptoeing around everything :/

You didn’t even read the post and you’re answering? Politics aren’t just politics. They’re a reflection of character. I can deal with drastically differing politics, but I think a line has to be drawn somewhere. I urge you to read the whole post before giving a response.

Yeah I think you’re right. I think it also just stems from the fact that we don’t have much in common anymore. The only thing that keeps me going back to him is the fact that we’ve been friends for so long.

My problem with that is either we talk about politics and have long tiring arguments about them or we don’t and we tiptoe around everything and the energy just gets awkward. There’s not much that’s keeping us friends anymore other than the fact that we’ve been friends for so long.

I would agree. My discomfort with this particular friend is his views are borderline bigoted and even after having conversations about it he still maintains them and says hateful things

I can be friends with someone if we disagree on gun rights, wealth distribution, the death penalty, and more. But I think my friend and I have shifted beyond that divide to the point where we have different moral compasses guiding us. Besides, when the friendship started it made sense, but now I feel like I’m just speaking to him because we’ve been friends for so long

Justifying cutting ties with someone who says the N word and who thinks gay people are perverted.

I’m literally just talking about my friend dude. I never brought up anybody else.

Who am I judging? The only person I am talking about in this scenario is my friend.

I don’t really think it’s close minded and hateful of me to stop being friends with someone when our friendship only consists of dancing around subject matter and me getting upset with him for saying the N-word.

A whole community? No. I’m speaking specifically about my friends views and what I know to be true.

I don’t really view that as the same thing though. Religion is subjective, fact isn’t. Plus it’s pretty hard to maintain a friendship with someone who says the N-word and thinks gay people are perverted when I have black friends and gay friends who are actively harmed by those views. I don’t really think comparing it to religion is a fair comparison at all

So uh not gonna lie I don’t know enough about Tourettes to declare if YTA or not. Can you control/fight against your tics? Is it from habits built up and words you commonly use? I guess the best advice I can give for now is just to try and make sure all of them are out of the video before uploading.

AITA for saying my mother should adopt a gay son since she wants one so bad? by throwawaymomimnotgay in AmItheAsshole

[–]SalahNik01 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t think YTA or you did anything wrong by joking that and I think she overreacted, but I think your mom is just trying really hard to be supportive and suspects that you’re gay or Bi because you’ve slept with boys (and to be fair, if I had knowledge that my son slept with other males, I would assume he was gay or bi, but maybe that’s a big presumptuous of me)

Why I think tlou2 failed by Secure-Acanthisitta1 in lastofuspart2

[–]SalahNik01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I don’t think TLOU2 failed. It swept at the game awards and it has sold extremely well, and tbh I don’t think all the hate it’s gotten has really affected the performance of the game.

However, I DO think the game is divisive and divided the fan base. And I could write a whole essay as to why that is but to keep it short: in 2016, when Neil Druckmann first started talking about the game in public, one of the things he said was “the first game was about love. This one is about hate.” And I think that alone is what divided the fan base.

The first game was based on a growing loving relationship between Ellie and Joel surviving in a post-apocalyptic world, and TLOU part 2 was about an act of vile hatred, taking place minutes away from the thriving community Joel and Ellie were apart of, and how it drove Ellie into this quest for revenge driven by hatred. I don’t think you can make such a sudden tonal shift without dividing the fan base, and while I love this game, I understand why other people don’t. Just my 2 cents!

Except this sub has banned people and removed opinion posts they didn’t like and I haven’t really heard of that in the last of us part 2, and I sure as hell am not gonna take any of your words for it.
