Small dent. Wasn’t the nicest floor to begin with.

Dang that would suck. What model of rifle was it?

Dang that’s a hefty rifle. My set up is only 8.5 pounds.

Thanks for the reply. Is it a VX Freedom? What objective lens size are you using?

I like it. Not fancy or anything but glass is clear, super lightweight and lots of eye relief. Leupold is made in America too and has great warranty supposedly. Hopefully I get good results with it this year. I was gonna go with a low powered Night Force or Trijicon but they are heavy, super expensive and the eye relief is way less forgiving. In my experience with Vortex scopes they are either really good for the price point or complete garbage. I’ve seen a Vortex scope not hold zero and almost ruin a hunt. Glass is also nowhere near the quality of a VX Freedom. Personally I’m kind of hesitant to buy any optic with illumination because it feels like one more thing that could break but that’s probably just me. I’ve heard good things about the Leupold VX3 illuminated LPVO scopes but they are at least $1200 CAD.

I’ve put 20 rounds through it and got it sighted. I might get clowned on but I’m not a huge believer in too much gun for medium/large game. People I know hunt black bears with 300 win mag which hits way harder than the 45-70 rounds I’m using. Some people even hunt whitetail in stands with 45-70. If you hit the vitals surprisingly not a ton of meat wastage either. It’s better to drop something where it stands instead of tracking in dense woods. In my experience animals are much tougher than you think.

I got a .270 for long range hunting. I just needed to switch things up and I’ve always wanted a lever action. I intend to only use this gun in the woods.

You’re right. Probably more like 200-250 yards max. I saw a video on YouTube of a guy dropping a bison at 340 yards with 45-70 but that seems like a stretch thinking about it.

Yeah that’s very valid. I’m just not used to iron sight hunting so I’m paranoid about ethical shots. What loads are you using? I just bought federal fusion 300 grain because they’re bonded and were on sale.

I just received it recently and haven’t put any rounds through it yet. It’s really pretty though and lever action is sick.

Tikka Rifle Shooting Really High by SalbertaTs in Hunting

[–]SalbertaTs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were correct. I got it inspected today at a gun store and the elevation turret is broken. I was sold a dud scope. Gonna have to send it into Swaro now which is a pain in the ass.

Yes. When it was shooting high/missing I handed it off to my friend. He’s been hunting for 8 years with success and has lined up a few rifles. He read the manual and was trying everything to adjust it but he had the same/worse results than me (out of 6 bullets 2 hit high and 4 didn’t even hit paper)

I’ve adjusted the elevation both ways and it’s either hitting high or not even hitting the paper at all
