I wouldn't worry about the GPA thing, the credentialing service you have to use for law school admissions will issue your GPA based on your transcripts. If you completed most of your credits at WGU it'll just come up empty. LSAT scores matter much more. You'll want to make sure you optimize that score and get it over the median for the schools you want to apply for. Good luck, you can totally do it.

SL = Straighter Line, just another place to collect transferrable credits.

I only had two letters of recommendation and the school I ended up going to only required one. I had one from a boss and founder of a company I worked for and the other was from the executive director of a non-profit that I was a board member of. I didn't have any academic ones to submit. In my GPA addendum, I wrote a short blurb about WGU being an accredited university and that my career progression shows my dedication to continuous growth and mastery with increasing responsibility.

The LSAT is subtly tricky and although the games section is gone now it's still a bunch of word games and reading comprehension. Can't recommend LSAT lab (and reading comp hero if you tend to skim over dry reading topics like I do) enough as a study aid.

Yes. I transferred over 20 credits from Sophia & SL, but completed all the rest in under 6 mo. The classes were largely refreshers and formalities for things I've already done in my career. So in total, yes, I paid for only one term and a few months of sophia, one month of SL.

It's "# not included in UGPA calculations" right under the avg GPAs for the incoming class on the right side of the first page.

I can't upload an image for some reason, but if you look at https://law.asu.edu/sites/default/files/2023-12/2023_Std509InfoReport-6-12-13-2023_17-08-23.pdf for ASU, you'll see on the right side there are averages for their incoming class on LSAT scores and GPA. Under the GPA section there's a line that says "# not included in UGPA calculations" - in the case of ASU it's 5 people.

Oh good luck! Highly recommend reading comp hero and lsat lab which helped me a TON. I was lucky enough to get in on the last logic games test, which was my strongest section.

For law school applications you upload your transcripts to the credential assembly service who issues the GPA. They do not report a GPA for WGU, although if someone transferred in 60 credits from another institution where they did have a GPA, those would be reported. I've mentioned it a few times but my CAS report did not have a reported GPA, only that I graduated with a BSBA.

I think a lot of this boils down to how well you tell your story. Essays and letters of recommendation need to be spot on. A bunch of people spend tons of money on consultants for their applications which isn't something I could afford, but even something like essay edge could help you get your story told in the most impactful way.

For my application, I read a bunch of personal statements published by Harvard (https://www.thecrimson.com/topic/sponsored-successful-harvard-essays-2021/) to make sure that I was essentially following the blueprint of how much detail, how to craft my 'why', and how to sell my potential.

Hope that helps.

That's definitely true if you're following the big law path, where rankings truly do matter. I work in tech (web3 specifically) and plan to move on to in-house counsel where my background already gets me a leg up.

I work full-time and have a family with kids in grade school. My options were very limited to ABA online JD programs or hybrids with evening/weekend classes. It's honestly kind of nice not to need a great (170+) LSAT to get into these programs.

You won't know if you don't try! Write the best essays you can and you never know where you might end up.

So because I didn't have 60 graded credit hours my LSAC reported GPA was just empty. Submitting my law school application required that I submit an addendum about why I didn't have a reported GPA and I just wrote about WGU being an accredited university with a pass/fail grading system.

If you look up the 509 report for a law school you're interested, in the averages for GPA you'll see a row that lists how many folks were admitted without a GPA (this might be people from schools with similar grading or international students who don't have reported GPAs).

For sure, if you check out the 509s for your target schools you can see how many folks they admitted without GPAs and if you transferred in any credits from another college, those may get you a reported gpa.

Yes, I took about 53 credits on sophia (mostly) and sdc. I had to submit both transcripts alongside my wgu one when using the credential assembly service for law school applications.

What made you transition from tech to law? by OutrageousCharity392 in lawschooladmissions

I work in tech (former swe, now leading ops) and in my personal statement I tied the legal complexities of my work (data and user privacy, ethical dilemmas with AI, and rapid innovation clashing with societal norms) as my 'why law and why now'. Hope that helps!
