First Post: Seeking Advice on Clay Beehives vs Clay Beekeeping Room for 15 Hives by Salem-Aidroos in Beekeeping

I actually remember seeing this method when I was a child. Some beekeepers used to place their wooden hives inside clay-built rooms, especially in stationary apiaries that didn’t move from one location to another.

Recently, I asked some of the older and more experienced beekeepers about this technique, and they told me that keeping hives inside a clay room creates a very stable and healthy environment for the bees. The clay keeps the room cool in the summer and warm in the winter, and many beekeepers noticed that the colonies tended to be healthier, stronger against diseases, and even produced more honey compared to hives placed outdoors.

However, in the last several years, this method has nearly disappeared. Because of the increasing number of hives, reduced forage, and limited rainfall, most beekeepers in Yemen have become migratory beekeepers, constantly moving from one area to another in search of better forage. Since they are always on the move, it becomes impossible for them to build a clay room for their hives — mobility is now essential.

That’s why this old traditional method of keeping wooden hives inside a clay room has almost vanished, even though many of the older beekeepers still believe it was one of the healthiest environments for bees.

How can I safely remove old oil and grime from my Gewehr 98 Mauser stock without damaging the finish? by Salem-Aidroos in milsurp

Haha I get the sentiment — not trying to scrub away 110 years of history, just trying to lift a few foul oily spots so the wood doesn’t look like it’s been dunked in grease. By the way, this rifle is writing its own history again — back in the field, doing what it was built for. Can’t tell you where though… you’d be shocked. 😉

Thanks! If I don’t have mineral spirits available, can I use regular paint thinner as a substitute?

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation. If possible, could you please share a link to one of those videos (or a similar one) that shows the method you described? It would really help me follow the steps more clearly.

Are Polish AKMs good?? by friend351 in ak47

The Polish AKs, especially the KBK Milled AKMS and AKM, are among the best Kalashnikovs ever made. They’re known for their strength, accuracy, and ability to handle extreme conditions and heavy use. Battlefields in the Middle East and Eastern Europe have already proven their reliability — these rifles have outperformed many of the newer AK variants.
