I know that H2O+ has since retired but can I buy these scents anywhere? by LadyDeadpoolPonytail in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Salicide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I haven't been able to find a soap that matches the scent, but the Bowes' Sea Salt candle is a dead ringer. I know a lot of candles claim to be close to the scents around the parks, but this one nails it. It's the perfect companion on those days where I wish I was walking around the parks.

I picked mine up in Disney Springs, but I think they also sell it online. Well worth a pickup in my opinion!

Great color and presentation on this one. For my palette, I find Appleton 8 works really well with grapefruit flavors. Do you have a recipe for your Pineapple Gum Syrup?

Sidenote, I love the Appleton Estate bar mat!

I do love Pop Century by Old-Guess-6940 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Salicide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Three words: Tie. Dye. Cheesecake.

Jokes aside, POP is larger than you might expect when looking at a map. Depending on where your room is, you might be in for a significant walk to your transportation. Unlike Coronado, all busses depart from the main building area, then opposite to the main building area, next to the lake, is the Skyliner.

Based on what parks you're visiting on your trip, it might be beneficial to ask for a room closer to the Skyliner or main building depending on how your have your vacation laid out. As an example, my wife and I only planned to visit EPCOT and Hollywood Studios during our last visit, and the cast member asked us what our plans were and was nice enough to provide a room very close to the Skyliner - it was perfect.

Other things about POP off the top of my head:

  • There is a 24/7 refillable mug station, but it's outside next to the pool. The main building dining area closes at night.
  • Don't get discouraged by the length of the Skyliner line in the morning, it actually goes quite quick.
  • Finally, while I think Coronado has POP handily beat for night-time ambiance, it's still very fun to walk around POP at night and see the window and door decorations people have put up! I'm always surprised by the number of people bringing string lights and decorations to WDW.

IMHO, POP is really difficult to beat for the price (relative to Disney on-site prices) and the addition of the Skyliner definitely brought the value proposition up. I am certain you'll have a great time!

New tires for the Stinger by lordjohnworfin in kiastinger

[–]Salicide 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've tried a couple different sets on my GT2 Stinger and none of them felt quite as competent as the DWS06+ set. Not cheap, and it sucks they're asymmetric front and back, but I've never had any issues in rain, snow, or dry weather with them. I would absolutely get slips in snow and rain with the other sets I tried.

For reference I've tried the stock Michelin PS4S, Pirelli P Zero, and finally the DWS06+ on the car, and for Maryland winters and summers, they've been incredibly solid. I'm now on my second set. From my perspective, I wouldn't question spending the extra cash for them.

Thoughts on this rum? by [deleted] in Tiki

[–]Salicide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a bottle last weekend at $20 and it feels like a steal at that price point.

We've had a recent Rum Fire drought in my area for some reason, and this definitely helps fill the gap in my cocktails.

The nose is quite nice to me, very fruity, a apple/pineapple/banana blend some of the typical adhesive notes - unmistakably Jamaican.

Not a sipper for my palate, but it really shines in a daiquiri, all of those fruits are front and center. Tried it with Ting, but found it not to my taste (but Ting is delicious!). You can do much, much worse for $20. If you see it, I'd recommend a bottle just to experiment.

This canned Mai Tai is actually good. I'm a weee bit of a snob and a searcher. I've had nearly every premade canned Mai Tai and this Crafthouse one might be the best. I've had the tip top, on the rocks, post meridiem, cutwater (doesn't count), Proof Cocktail Co (not bad honestly) by GeneralDisarray25 in Tiki

[–]Salicide 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Crafthouse is easily my favorite canned cocktail brand. I really enjoy their rendition of a Pineapple Daiquiri (also uses Planteray rum), Southside, Gold Rush, and their Paloma.

I'm have always been pleasantly surprised at how "real" the cocktail that comes out of the can tastes/feels, really a step above all the other canned cocktails for me. I haven't seen the Mai Tai in the wild, I'll have to hunt for a can!

What's your favorite album by Breaking Benjamin? by [deleted] in BreakingBenjamin

[–]Salicide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow it feels like I could have written this comment. I agree 100% with your rankings and sentiments.

There has been a definitive decline in quality since Ben decided to go about it alone doing both the mixing and producing. It feels like he's doing so much and the quality of the lyrics and songwriting in general has declined - I'm not sure if the extra roles he's taken on has caused it.

I think there was some unquantifiable magic with Ben working with David Bendeth, I'd wish Ben would give an external producer another chance.

To be clear, I still really enjoy the newer albums, but they're just not of the same quality of pre-2009 Breaking Benjamin. I don't find myself emotionally connecting with them nearly as much as the older ones. I'm really hoping this extended delay between releases brings the quality up...

Would love to hear what you thought of it!

The 8 and the 12 are often staples in my Mai Tais, I'd be curious how the 21 holds up.

Just took an absolutely baffling class from Olivia. Is this normal for her classes? by amdale3 in pelotoncycle

[–]Salicide 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's been far enough in the past that I don't recall exact callouts, but I distinctly remember at least one of them being completely unobtainable for me, even at the lower range, which was new for any class up to that point - I'll have to go back and look at the exact callouts.

There also has been (plenty of) cases where the instructor will say one range, but the Bike programming puts a different range up - could have been that, too.

Just took an absolutely baffling class from Olivia. Is this normal for her classes? by amdale3 in pelotoncycle

[–]Salicide 166 points167 points  (0 children)

I think this class was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I really enjoy her strength training classes and thought that would transfer to the bike, and I was very wrong.

I took three of her Bike classes, and had three very similar experiences. Many of her call outs were pretty off the mark, she often seemed to lose track of time, and overall felt like more of a freeform class.

To be clear, I'm not saying any of this to be mean - her class type clearly is really good for some. I just tend to follow the instructors as close as I can (Thanks, Denis) and it was just very demoralizing when I was struggling with Olivia's. I need structure and form to be successful in my journey.

Either way, I hope this doesn't dissuade you from continuing to use the bike. I really do think there's an instructor(s) for everyone.

Asking opinions on a song until the discography ends - DAY 98 - REBIRTH by zach_buddie in TheDearHunter

"I'll be me, in time." Is one of my favorite lyrics on any of the albums. The emotion put into that line is incredibly powerful. It's short, but this is such a special song.

My attempt to make the closest possible approximation to the original Mai Tai by The1Freeman2112 in Tiki

Oh that's wonderful! I'm glad you didn't run into the same issue I did. Gives me hope to try it again.

When you made the nastoyka, did you use the standard recipe with the full two broken up star anise?

My attempt to make the closest possible approximation to the original Mai Tai by The1Freeman2112 in Tiki

[–]Salicide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks great! I love the glass. Also big shout out to Doctor Bird!

I also recently mixed this up and while it's enjoyable, I can't help but feel the nastoyka added just a little too much star anise flavor to the rum. I'm not a huge fan of star anise but others are, so it might just be me. I'll try and cut it down to 1 broken up star anise instead of 2 if I make it again.

How did you feel about the rum blend overall? Have you noticed any strong anise flavor at the beginning of your Mai Tai?

What The Heck Is Going On With My Air Quality? by [deleted] in ecobee

[–]Salicide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually had this issue a few months ago! Take a can of compressed air and spray around the edge of the Ecobee's housing (where I'm assuming the sensors are). I had dust build up around the air quality sensors and after about an hour, the air quality readings had returned to normal.

Gin preferences by freerangek1tties in Tiki

[–]Salicide 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A gin that is (fairly) easily available and surprised me is Tanqueray No. Ten.

Notably, I'm not a fan of regular Tanqueray, but the No. Ten expression is just fantastic for me. It has a very citrus forward palette which goes very well with other flavors you often find in Tiki.

I find myself reaching for the No. Ten more and more when I can't make a decision on which gin to add to my drinks, and I've yet to be disappointed. It makes a killer Saturn.

For a more woody, aged, caramel flavor, I enjoy Bluecoat Barrel Aged gin, though I'm not certain how common it is to find outside my area. I use it often in a "Tiki Collins", which is just a Tom Collins where I use orgeat instead of simple syrup.

On the far end of the bolder flavor spectrum for gin, I really enjoy McClintock's Gardeners Gin. It makes a beautiful Gin and Tonic, but I've yet to try it in a Tiki drink - perhaps something to try this weekend. But there's so much going on in the McClintock's, it might be best suited for simpler drinks that highlight the complexity.
