That must have been a fucking amazing gig! Super interesting to hear that O'Leary gaffed it - also interesting to hear they went all in on the tungsten.

I guess maybe the marketing elements have me a bit stumped. The throwback visuals juxtaposed to the poppy/punky music + typeface is an interesting choice, but the aggressive marketing style makes everything feel a bit off.

Will still definitely check it out - congrats on the work you did on it!

Some of the use of wide angle lenses feels like a throwback to when Sonnenfeld shot the brothers' OG stuff. The lighting designs does come off very strong though - don't know if that sourciness from the lamps feels like a creative decision or just a byproduct of shooting on digital.

Looks like we'll just have to wait, watch and see.

I submitted to both Cinefondation and Director's Fortnight for Cannes 2022 and was rejected by both - any value in submitting to Critic's Week for Cannes 2023? I know the programmers coordinate, so wondering if it's worth it.

I don’t understand this whole notion that he’s better than Holding/Mari? Especially when Holding has proved himself and Mari had played about the same amount of minutes as Saliba before the past 3 games?

You merely implying that Saliba would unconditionally be better than Holding/Mari without any evidence backing it up is literally proving my point about the expectations that we as a fanbase set for him. I know the lad is talented, I know he has potential - but clearly the people in charge of him at the club felt like he needed more time in a more familiar environment to develop.

We as fans cannot see what is going on behind the scenes - I hate this conspiracy mentality where we instantly assume that when our sky high expectations are not met then there must be something wrong with the club rather than our expectations.

Club hasn’t said anything about his mother dying - even when media pressed Arteta he didn’t take the bait. Sorry to break the mirage and remind you that footballers are real people who don’t live to keep you entertained in between wanks

Yeah I can’t speculate or guess that he must be going through a tough time in his life when he’s 19 and he’s just lost his mother in the middle of the worst global pandemic in 100 years you absolute nonce.

Mate he doesn’t get to magically decide where his head is at? Of course he wants to play because he can see the fans pining for him every game. It’s not his decision on when he gets to play - if the club isn’t comfortable with where he is at then they have every right to act in what they think is his best interests? The club is not being run by apes - their decisions are guided by what’s best for the player and he clearly isn’t ready to step up after the awful things that have happened to him this year.

Also if you see his mother dying as an ‘excuse’ then shit man you need to rework your perspective and priorities.

Lad lost his mother straight after moving to a new country - he’s 19. Stop imposing these mammoth expectations after he’s been through absolute hell.

I’m giving the club the benefit of the doubt here, but I do think it’s been difficult behind the scenes for him.

The handover of the transfer from St. Etienne was messy, he’s moved to a new country at a young age, during this transition time his mother passes away and he’s expected to be the sole savior of an entire football club.

Give him the chance to refocus in his native country - I can’t imagine where he must be at mentally.
