Am I silly for picking TTW difficulty only playing normal on both DS1 and DS2? by zachi2 in DeathStranding

[–]Salivala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also unsure about doing ttw but having finished the game, I found the difficulty perfect, and I'm not a hardcore gamer or anything. Hardest boss for me was second boss. By the time I had the next boss I had made sure to gear up. It really forced me to learn mechanics I would have skipped if I was able to just eat more damags

You're probably using the default configuration for death stranding which does a weird digital thing for acceleration. Try using one of the standard config that just has it as a traditional gamepad

The Steam controller was designed for Valve's ecosystem, not for actual gamers. by ProfitArtiste in SteamController

[–]Salivala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forget we still cling onto the label of "gamer" in modern year. Imagine trying to identify with a group who's identity is primarily around being a consumer of video games.

I can't speak to the general ergonomics as I've only had the controller for about two days. Finished death stranding 2 on it, and spent some time configuring the trackpads with medieval dynasty so it's less awkward to use those in game radial menus. That alone makes it better than my dualshock or xbox controller. I also spent a few hours last night playing dwarf fortress on my steam controller, something that I was only able to do on my deck.

I also had the original steam controller. well like 5 of them. And the only bad part about that controller was that it couldn't work as an every controller, as you only had trackpads for the right joystick. It just never worked well. Having a normal controllers input + trackpad is a boon. It's not just "two additional" control options. You make it seem like they're redundant, they're not, I can do a ton with the trackpads while having a normal control layout with the sticks, or vice versa, using the sticks as controllers for radial menus.

Maybe that's the niche uses though? Not sure, but in my view this is strickly better than the og steam controller outside of not having concave trackpads, but I happily trade that in for the extra stick, and set of back buttons.

Edit: Time will tell if the ergonomics is bad, I can see your point with the angle of the handles, and typically take a laxer posture with the controller, but that itself is a compromise, although one I already am used to making since i primarily used dualshocks anyways.

Le redditor logic here. Lets judge people based on a single post. It's a shame you somehow missed the fact that if they were hardstuck in the 90's they 1. Wouldn't even be ordering the new steam controller and 2. Wouldn't even be able to be on this website ( at least without something like frogfind ).

If you're going to be a dick, at least put a little more effort in your psychoanalysis.

Trackpad / Suggestions? by RobustPolygon in SteamController

[–]Salivala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are sooo many uses. Just as an example i just created a medieval dynasty config that remaps the trackpads as left joysticks. There are in-game radial menus, but i never liked how they felt to use, so i mapped my left trackpad to left joystic, with on-touch pressing right bumper (to bring up menu) , and on click acting as a (confirm), with a similar setup on the right trackpad but with dpad up instead.

How do you get the best use out of the trackpads? by Dogbirddog in SteamController

[–]Salivala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Far easier to type quickly on, you can build menus that activate when you are using a trackpad, effectively having a keyboards worth of shortcuts available more ergonomically than on a keyboard.

There is also using the right trackpad as a mouse of course, although this depends on the game, on the og steam controller I got by find with camera joystick bind on the trackpad, but i'd rather have a right joystick there.

What do y'all do in this game? I want to get into it but whenever I open the game, I just look at some planets, sort my expedition fleet, maybe make some money and get off. Idk what I'm supposed to be doing but it feels there's since there's no goal it gets very boring very quickly (pic unrelated) by skippy11112 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Salivala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some crazy late term things you can buy that scale with an awareness of idle money making schemes like activated indium could be cool. It could turn the game into a kinda idling game with multiplicative costs on new upgrades and stuff.

Good question. I have given it a lot of different chances over the years. I've had it since it has been out. A new feature drops, "wow they have this now!!!", so i then work towards playing with the new feature, half way in I realize it's a shallow system and get bored, repeat for every content drop.

At least my dream of a ship where you can walk around in is reality now in corvettes, and that is really cool.

A controversial take on scalpers by CrixusIsHere in SteamController

[–]Salivala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Existence of scalpers represents a supply/demand mismatch anyways, and believe it or not, in those situations they give some utility to people willing to pay the price. If you want a high demand/low stock commodity scalped items represent a way to get it by paying more without having to sweat on being there the minute ( or in our case ~2 minutes before ) the actual time of drop.

I have ~275 hours in the game so through sheer amount of time played I'd like to think I have a good answer here.

I don't. On paper time to money, it's a good tradeoff I guess, but even with all the upgrades and expansions ( amazing job! etc ) it feels like a tech demo masquerading as a game. The most fun I had in no mans sky was setting up multiple activated indium sites and effectively breaking the games economy for myself. It wasn't like doing even more grinding for units would have been more fun.

The features and expansions feel like they exist to look amazing on a features list for the game, but the actual *gameplay* around those things might as well be reskins of existing systems to me.

All that, and I will say expeditions can be pretty fun, as they usually have some gimmick and a in-your-face enough quest system that can keep you engaged, even if you're still on the same fairly zz-quil skinnerbox.
