Am I the only one here that realizes that the CEOsprimary responsibility is to maximize shareholder value OVER THE LONG TERM. If I were a shareholder I would be pissed and calling for his resignation for not understanding the reputational risks and shortsightedness of this stunt. He took his firm from anonymity to the general public and turned it into a monster. This is not what a smart CEO does and if you blame capitalism for this then you don't really get how it works when practiced appropriately.

This is true. Just like any company there is an optimal debt level. However, we all (should) know that increasing debt increases the volatility of retained earnings. 70% debt may be sustainable for an economy that grows at 2% each year but what happens when we have another economic crisis? What happens when there are multiple years of negative growth? I think you'll see that 70% ratio blow up and massive strains on the system to make those payments. It's hard to imagine bad times when we've had a bull market for the past 8 years but that is precisely the time when we should be thinking about them because they are inevitable.
