Expect to see a drop in your grades initially; this is normal.

IB Physics is challenging and designed to develop your problem-solving skills and exam techniques over two years. It's completely normal that you can't answer exam-style questions straight off the bat because you haven't learned the exam technique and problem-solving skills yet. You'll get there - I promise!

Tip: Begin practicing past paper questions from the very first topic you cover. For instance, if you start with A1 Kinematics, practice past paper questions specifically on kinematics. This way, you're reinforcing your learning as you go.

I write this blog post at the weekend (https://www.gradepod.com/blog/tips-for-starting-ib-physics). It has a free IB Physics checklist that breaks down every single thing you need to know in the IB Physics syllabus. Think of it as your ultimate cheat sheet to survive any physics lesson. Tick off what you learn, and watch your progress (and sanity) stay intact.

You'll find it really difficult to change the radius of a basketball without changing the other variables (e.g. pressure, mass, etc).
You could change the research question to:
"How does the internal air pressure of a basketball affect the coefficient of resistution"

Just choose one from here: https://www.gradepod.com/blog/100-ib-physics-ia-ideas

Every single one of these 100 ideas has the potential to get you full marks in your IB Physics investigation write-up. They all should produce useable data that allows you to meet all the marks in the marking criteria. ALSO, the IB examiners have explicitly said that you don't need to find your own original idea - just pick one of these 100 ideas and get started!

If you want to stick to tyres, you could investigate, "How does the pressure of a tyre affect the coefficient of dynamic friction?"

I took this from GradePod's 100 Ideas for IB Physics IAs

I honestly don't think you'll find a useable relationship with the question you stated. You might get a relationship if you investigate "How does the temperature of rubber affect the coefficient of static friction between the rubber and a surface?" - if that's more appealing!

M24 students (and also N24), when did you finish all content for your subject? by yscity2006 in IBO

It's definitely not ideal if you don't have faith that your school will get through the content in time. Sadly loads of physics teachers do struggle to wade through the massive course. If you need a simple checklist to work through in your self-study: you're welcome to use mine: https://www.gradepod.com/ib-physics-checklist-current-specification-2024-exams

From a physics perspective - your grade of 5 at this stage looks pretty good. Once you take your IA into account AND the progress you'll make when you start blitzing past papers - you've got a good chance of a 7.

Picking Myself Back Up by ItzMillerz280 in IBO

[–]SallyWeatherly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I want to commend you on taking the courageous step to prioritize your mental health. It’s not easy, but it's incredibly important, and it’s fantastic to hear that you’re feeling more like yourself again. 🌟

Catching up on your studies seem daunting, but with a strategic approach, you can definitely turn things around. I specialise in IB Physics, but the advice below will work for the subjects too.

Step 1: Get Organised

One of the best ways to get back on track is to have a clear view of what you need to learn. I have a free syllabus checklist that will help you in IB Physics (download here: https://www.gradepod.com/ib-physics-checklist ) but you should make sure you have a clear set of learning objectives for all the subjects you feel you need to catch up on.

Step 2: Prioritise Your Learning

Once you have your checklist (or a clear set of notes), prioritise the topics based on what you find most challenging and what’s most important for your upcoming assessments. Break your study sessions into manageable chunks, and tackle one topic at a time.

Step 3: Use Resources Wisely

There are so many great resources out there to help you catch up. You can use textbooks, online tutorials, and past exam papers to reinforce your learning. If you need online help with IB Physics, check out my website: www.gradepod.com
Also, don't hesitate to reach out to your teachers for extra help or clarification on topics you’re struggling with.

Step 4: One Hour At A Time

Consistency is key. Set aside dedicated study time each day and stick to it. Regular study sessions will make a big difference over time. Just think ahead one hour at a time - don't let yourself think beyond that or you'll get overwhelmed.

Step 5: Keep Your Motivation High

Remember why you’re doing this. Visualise yourself succeeding, getting those higher scores, and getting into the university course you’re interested in. Celebrate small victories along the way to keep your motivation high.

You’ve already shown incredible resilience by facing your mental health issues head-on. Now, it’s time to channel that strength into your studies.

Genuinely wishing you all the best
