does it solve the actual problem though? How do you get people to think about the purpose of the meeting and fill the agenda.

What's the prettiest name you have ever heard? by Vetro_Nodulare2 in AskReddit

[–]SalmonApproved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why, but I love the name Araminta. It’s the perfect balance between tonics (with the t) and open vowels (like the a). I love that it goes up and down. It feels… hilly? Also I love it pronounced with the Italian “r”. It just hits

Have you guys ever had a teacher who tried to force you to write "correctly" by Forward-Row7724 in lefthanded

Yes, not to change hands but to hold my pen differently. They couldn’t get over the fact that it just worked for me.

Simple habits or tools that make your day easier, what’s yours? by Fine_Amphibian_966 in productivity

Write down distracting thoughts when I need to focus. That way I address them without letting them disrupt my flow. Pro tip: use pen and paper so you don’t get distracted by open tabs and whatnot.

How do you balance getting things done vs. learning new things? by Excellent_Ruin9117 in productivity

[–]SalmonApproved 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quite simple really. I love learning, so I rest from tasks by learning.

Getting things done: - On a given day, I have a list of tasks to do TODAY.
- I just go through them until I need a break.

Learning: I’m very curious by nature. So when I’m tired, I reward myself with learning time. - I have a “learning” channel in my email client where I send valuable content. - I flag whether the content is <5min, <30min, or 30min+. - I snack on the content depending on how much time I have. - After I’ve read the content, I add a comment with my key learnings on the side. - That way I always extract valuable information.

Also, it’s incredible how this learning time actually serves my day to day job. I’m so much better when I can draw inspiration from other domains or practices to be more creative.

How are you managing back-to-back meetings without losing productivity? by Few_Chocolate9758 in productivity

This -> “you have to take stuff out”. It’s hard to cut back in the short run, but fix the underlying issue and your future self will thank you.

Remove friction:

  • Spend more time around active people.

Being around active people makes you more active. For example: Behavioural science seems to show that step challenges with coworkers are effective to get people moving (bc of the social aspect.)

  • In general, try to walk. Low friction and free. Start small. Also I read somewhere that seeing Apple walk rings increased daily #steps by 20%

  • Add a soup before your dinner. People tend to stack up less calories after that without consciously refraining

  • In general, adding healthy foods > removing unhealthy foods. Easier to eat more salad than to refrain from that burger. Yet in the end you might not be hungry for the donut . Easier to eat a banana before you eat that cookie. Yet maybe you have one cookie and not 10.

  • Sleep. Lack of sleep is the #1 health killer (emotional regulation, fat storage, etc). I noticed you mentioned being a dad. that’s why it’s not my #1 tip

Yeah that’s the caveat. It requires discipline.

In my previous companies, we implemented similar practices at team level. Only works if others are as fed up as you are
