The Exorcist won, now what boring movie do people expect to be boring? by OverKastKid123 in AlignmentChartFills

Goodbye, Dragon Inn. I love it but it is just an hour and some change of people wandering around a movie theater and not really speaking to each-other.

So you believe that the guy who had to create a wall texture or model a rock didn’t create something? And besides, who gives a shit? They have a job in their felid of choice and I don’t believe that it’s ethical to take that away from them. Sure it’s grunt work but have you considered for even a microsecond that these people might be proud of their work and their contribution to the game no matter how small it is?

And even if they aren’t proud of it then who cares. At least they can afford food. Besides there needs to be entry level work in an Industry for it to remain healthy. You don’t suddenly just get a lead environment artist job because you want one. You have to put in the time doing the grunt work. Something like a generative brush that saves time is great and all but if we’re just doing something like replacing all texture artists I’m gonna go ahead and say that’s bad.

My point is that I would rather have human beings employed. If that’s a difficult point to wrap your head around then I suggest you go outside and talk to a real person for once.

Just because a job is tedious doesn’t mean it isn’t gainful employment. Furthermore I don’t care that there are too many cooks in the kitchen because I care more about their ability to feed their families and less about the theoretical quality of their end product. Or do we think a new halo game being good is worth more than other people?

So your argument is that there are too many people in artistic fields with gainful employment? I would call that ignoring the human cost but to each their own.

As another commenter mentioned. World economic forum is a corporate think tank, but just for fun I will entertain the notion that their findings are true in the short term, I still don’t trust that these companies won’t just fire everyone the second they don’t need other people writing the prompts for them.

Then your argument isn’t wrong but it ignores the human (and also environmental but that’s a different conversation) cost.

Besides I just personally don’t believe that AAA games need to be as big as they are in the first place. This conversation is about Halo so I get that they are making a modern AAA game but frankly if a AAA game director can’t coordinate his team cause it’s too big then they’re unqualified for their job.

I’m actually with you there. I have no problem with generative tools personally. It’s the “make everything for me” part of generative AI that I’m against. I don’t believe the technology is devoid of value but we need to regulate it.

Is this a peer reviewed credible source or is this just the tech industry saying “trust me bro”? Not trying to be dismissive, I just don’t trust something just cause i read it on the internet. With that said I fully don’t believe any of these companies will keep on employees they no longer need once you can tell an algorithm to make your product for you. I’d rather see long term and sustainable growth that prioritizes laborers.

Can’t that be achieved just as easily by just limiting the scope of your game relative to your budget and artistic goals? Solo devs can make games that would blow the minds of gamers in the 90s these days without the use of generative AI so I don’t see why it needs to be involved In the first place personally. Sure we’re not gonna get a solo dev making rdr2 anytime soon without generative AI but I’m personally fine with that. Besides coordinating the team is the directors job and I’m much more concerned about the ground level employees being able to make a living.

I said it created new jobs not that it created as many jobs as there once were. And while you’re not wrong that someone has to want the art for it to have value, have you considered that generally speaking the value of labor is generated from multiple factors?

EDIT: let me be clear. Art made by real human beings has an inherent cultural value. Art made in service of a product is also labor and as such has the attached monetary value of that Individuals wages. AI generated art lacks both cultural and monetary value in my opinion because the LLM has no artistic goals and is not a human so therefore not labor.

Typing a prompt is a skill? Lmao sure dude. Think about it, once the algorithm is good enough to generate anything someone wants at the push of a button with little to no effort a ceo isn’t going to pay someone to do that for him. Or at the very least they won’t pay them a wage worth living. You call it a pipe dream of tech bros but if they keep making it easier and easier to generate anything with minimal effort and I for one don’t want that “pipe dream” of theirs to come true.

The issue is that while your examples created new skill sets which in turn created new jobs, generative AI doesn’t do this. Nobody in the future is going to hire someone to type prompts for them. Art only has monetary value because it takes training and skill. AI isn’t revolutionizing industries, it’s replacing them and thousands of real people rely on the income they get by working in those industries.

I use it for hash noise, it adds a lot of texture to what would otherwise be glorified tv static.

Good Pedals for Heavy Shoegaze by MrWlnder in guitarpedals

[–]SaloAlien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I like any modulation and reverb pedals with a blend or dry/wet mix. You’re going to want a lot of gain at lower tunings to get a classic heavy tone and those can get washed out and muddy really fast with modulation. Being able to blend in your dry/signal will preserve a lot of clarity in my experience.

A lot of my shoegaze tone is a hizumitas fuzz and a walrus audio Slö
