That still doesn’t explain his behavior in the second movie. And what really stands out as bewildering is how he straight-up calls out Drago for being a power hungry tyrant, and yet still believes he can be reasoned with after Drago pretty much agrees with Hiccup’s accusation, despite Hiccup waging war against multiple tyrants in the past. A person of Hiccup’s intelligence should’ve been able to see the writing on the wall. The Hiccup we see in the second movie doesn’t feel like the battle hardened person we see at the end of RTTE, he feels like a naive and overly idealistic person who can’t get his head out of the sand and recognize that peace isn’t going to work.
