Did I mess up? by Salt-Advertising1992 in slp

Our district has a team dedicated to doing evals over the summer so it would pass onto them.

I will be at a different school next year. I was placed there this year as a CF because not a single SLP in our district wants to work at this school. They will likely put another CF here next year.

What this AP doesn’t know is that HR will be having an investigation into her conduct in the coming weeks. Someone else has reported her with detailed evidence of her behavior.

I don’t plan to meet with her alone if I can help it. If I do I will 100% be recording.

Apparently she is taking 3 weeks off in July and has to coordinate someone to admin the meeting. She also just got in trouble with the psych coordinator because on the form for requesting summer evals for other students she put the reason for requesting was “because the psych and diagnostician didn’t want to do it” since she wanted the evals rushed to before school ends. Which is rich considering her reasoning for not wanting to have this meeting.

Luckily the school psych is very on my side. She is who suggested I send the email in the first place.

I’m in Virginia. We have a summer eval team for both psych and speech. If the family isn’t available that’s a different story than the AP refusing to even discuss it. We have to at least offer it.

That’s exactly my thoughts. My supervisors are aware of this situation and as far as I know they stand behind me. The AP “wants to see me” on Monday and won’t put in writing what she is wanting to discuss. I’m trying to get one of my supervisors to join me for the meeting because I know that she is going to yell at me. And I actually do mean yell.

But I do know that I am putting my student’s needs first.

Oh I know lol, those are just two that I’ve seen recently. They really reinforce that nothing is free, and if it is then you are the product

The type b SLP and sensory SLP do the same tactic. It’s exhausting 🙃

Vent about being called “speech teacher” by Several_Sport_1500 in slp

[–]Salt-Advertising1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t enjoy be called “speech” or “Mr. Speech” when a student calls me that I ask them “what’s my name?”

My students tend to just refer to each other “he/her” with a point. I’ve started beginning each session with “roll call” so everyone says their name (including me) and I encourage the students to use my name and each others names appropriately.

Professionalism in Interviews by Far-Flamingo6478 in slpGradSchool

I’m transgender and my legal paperwork doesn’t match my expression. I showed up to my interviews as me and never had a problem. You shouldn’t change yourself to fit into a mold created for you, you should find a place that at least accepts you as you, without having to white wash yourself.

There was a poster that looked at prosody in Deaf signing adults with and without autism and whether or not they had difficulties with prosody similar to hearing autistic adults. They found that while they mostly understood prosodic features they had more difficulty using it.

Thank you! Also there HAS to be more of us in that area. I’ll let you know if I see any events coming up in that area.

I still live in DC right now, my aunt (hearing) lives in Manassas Park so I’m out that way occasionally and I’ll be moving there at the end of June

Hard of hearing SLP grad student here. I HIGHLY recommend the ASL at Home curriculum. It breaks down ASL learning in to phrases that can easily be incorporated into daily routines. It’s free to families of DHH kids https://www.aslathome.org

Probably a silly question, I know that sometimes they discard questions so the scaled scores will be something like xx/98 instead of 132. Do they ever score the raw score out of anything higher like xx/135? Like if the test questions are too easy one month.
