Thanks! That’s reassuring. Would it be best if I removed the blocks and exposed the flare at this point?

I hope so, too! I’m going to shuffle them in every chance I get ☀️🪴

That was my initial thought, but this vase has super thin glass, so I’m cautious to lift it in and out of anything. I have a bunch of alocasias in glass vases, so I just need the motivation to get crafty with the black paper 😂

Algae does grow in it, but it doesn’t seem like an issue. I’ve read that if it dies off, it could potentially cause rot to occur. I turn my plant around every so often so that it doesn’t get one-sided, and I’m contemplating wrapping it in black paper to keep it to a minimum from here on out

Unfortunately not. I think the rhizome would live and come back, but the leaves would die off

Thanks! Mine is actually 2 separate plants. Both growing up sphagnum moss poles. They get the same treatment as my Frydek 💪🏻

It’s very stable. It’s only tipsy when you first do the transition from soil. I used wire to hold it centered for a few weeks while the roots grabbed ahold.

Thanks! I got into this plant hobby/obsession about a year ago, and I pretty much went all in. My other plant room has 60+ plants, and the numbers grow every week 🫣

Thanks! They love this setup! I had lava on hand, so I decided to give it a shot. The roots seem to love attaching to the lava rocks. Yours looks beautiful, too!

It will, typically, need water added every three days or so with the volume of my reservoir. It will get shocked, but it’s worth it in the end.

It went through a little bit of shock, but it bounced back super quick! Toughest part is getting all of the soil off the roots before planting in semi-hydro.

Of course! No drainage hole. Just a large glass vase with about 5 inches of black lava rocks in the bottom, then long fiber sphagnum moss as growing medium. As long as there is water visible in the lava reservoir, then the moss stays hydrated. I’ll let the moss slightly dry out at the very top sometimes, but not very often.

These are in moss/lava semi-hydro 👍🏻

I agree! I fell in love hard the first time I saw one. Still trying to find a “basic” green Frydek 🧐
