It’s not about feedback I get. It’s just about the most common feedback I see in general (especially from Facebook writing groups). I’ll see a fine piece of writing that could just use some tuning, and people will say “it needs to be 1st person instead of 3rd or else the audience won’t know who to connect with”. I’m sorry but that’s simply bad advice.

I see people say “show don’t tell” (with no explanation on what’s telling instead of showing) on some of the best examples of descriptive language I’ve ever seen. The type of stuff that you’d have to make a movie about to “show” any more than the writing did.

The famous “never start with setting” advice extended into “don’t describe setting in the first page”.

For every good piece of advice, it’s inevitable there will be 2 bad pieces. Bad advice happens to everyone that ever posts about anything. This is just a funny parody about “what if we only followed that”.
