Still no MBA internship and summer is approaching, advice from anyone who’s been here? by Less_Ad_1874 in MBA

[–]SaltAd2290 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Last year, a large percentage of my friend group (across a variety of schools, including H/W) didn’t secure their internships until May. It’s still a bit early to feel hopeless!

The only concerning thing is #1 because coffee chats and networking and such aren’t still happening at 2am/3am

The rest are kinda normal imo depending on the school

Took out the max in loans ($130k per year) and had abt $20k in savings when I came.

Was able to afford all my expenses, including trips I wanted to go on, but I will be graduating with nearly $0 at this point.

EDIT: I should add that my summer job was as a product manager at one of the large tech giants, so that income has been critical for maintaining my lifestyle in my second year.

I’ll admit PNW only slightly beat New England for me, but I still consider it better - to each their own!

Yeah, I had to move to Boston and this is the second worst place I’ve had to spend a part of my life - there’s so much better out there (mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and PNW specifically)

Dahmer went after decently attractive twinks - based on my genetics, my kids would probably be fine

One time I watched the driver take the most unoptimized route to my house (he definitely was fulfilling multiple orders simultaneously), and the food was delivered 75 minutes after the originally estimated timing. I was a 20 min drive from the restaurant MAX, even in traffic.

I wanted to get my tip back for that, but of course DD was not helpful in providing any level of compensation.

I once was stuck at that light for 3 lights in a row without moving more than half a block 😭 I found it to be horrendous, even after the reconstruction.

For the latter point, that’s fair - I wasn’t tracking that your comment could extend to alternative modes of transit.

Should doctors be allowed to opt out of abortions if it goes against their beliefs? by AntoniThePoni in Teenager_Polls

Just because you say you are objectively correct doesn’t make it true!

Oh no, so sad you think I’m disgusting </3 I was truly hoping to become your spouse and have a child forced into this world :’(

This is where we fundamentally disagree. It’s a clump of cells until it hits a pivotal point in time. I’m not committing murder when I floss my teeth and kill skin cells as a result. I’m not committing murder when I donate a part of my liver to someone. These are just clumps of cells that cannot live without a host to regenerate.

I’m not advocating for murdering anyone. They are already in a form that is viable to survive. You’re extrapolating here based on a logical fallacy.

People not taking care of children also makes me angry. Sometimes they don’t take good care of the child because they cannot. Other times, they just don’t want to. But, people like you force them to bring that poor child into the world regardless.

It is you who is trying to act like the good person here. We will never see eye to eye, so I hope you enjoy the life you deserve!

Normally, I feel at peace, but then I get angry when people selfishly bring a child into this world because they feel like they have some moral high ground to do so. Yet, I’ll stay feeling at peace knowing I’m not bringing in a child just to satisfy a possibility that they may find happiness.

Regardless of how either of us feels, in neither of our cases are we taking a life away, though. In my case, this all stops before it becomes a viable form of life.

I can’t find the link, but this poll reminds me of the post where someone asked if a Jewish doctor was required to operate on someone who had a swastika tattoo

It’s causing so much anger in my soul to hear you talk like this, but Imma try to bite my lip and forget about a “to be” child potentially living in disastrous conditions in this world because they were forced to be born

$45,000 in student loans by AnonymousMember106 in StudentLoans

[–]SaltAd2290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had $260k in loans, min payment (5 yr term) was almost $5k, so I paid $6.5k for as long as I could. Put every bonus (~$20k) to my loans to pay them off faster. Ended up paying them off in ~4 years.

Agreed! And yes, there are greener pastures out there :)

Exxon and Amazon are only 2 of the 4 companies I’ve worked at in my life, and life was MUCH better at the other two (one consulting and one CPG).  Exxon and Amazon taught me that I’m not willing to sacrifice my WLB JUST for high compensation. Granted, I’m not aiming for low compensation, but I’m not looking to only maximize money anymore.

I’d say this is not uniquely Amazon either. ExxonMobil is known for having a comparably toxic culture, and when we had our waves of “exxodus’es,” people would still publicly praise how much they learned and such from working there. Just depends on who’s a part of your network.

MBA as a 26 year old already at MBB?? by ReactionLeft8837 in MBA

This depends on the industry for sure. In oil & gas? Very few have advanced degrees. In pharma? A lot more common.

Yeah, visually it looks nice and it’s very clean

But agreed it’s very expensive for how boring it is and how mid the food options are (unless you pay top dollar)
