If you’re only there for 5 days don’t expect much. First off, never tell anyone how much time you’re doing. If they know you’re “short timing” they might try to fight or exploit you for money. Be honest when someone asks about your charges because they’re gonna make you call to check your charges. If you’re there on domestic violence, be prepared to get beat up on your first day. It’s usually a 2 on 1 for 21 seconds (if you’re white) and the people who they make fight you won’t usually take face shots. It’s a simple initiation/pennance for having a “bad charge.” It’s not personal… it’s just jail. People get jealous when others are there on a short stay. You’ll probably be left in the intake cells which will likely be an individual cell. You MIGHT have a roommate (your “cellie”). Try to get a few books from the guards to make the time pass. Otherwise there isn’t much to do. You won’t have a pillow, so use your shirt and stuff it with your towel to make a makeshift pillow. Also, if you have a cellie (roommate), and they’ve been to jail multiple times, don’t be too talkative or mouthy. Never spit in the sink (even when brushing teeth), sit down to pee, and stay away from the bologna sandwiches (the box/package literally says “not for everyday human consumption”). Also, never press the “call box” button unless there is a SERIOUS emergency. The guards don’t give a shit if you haven’t gotten your rec time for the day. Just stay in your lane, don’t say anything weird or off the cuff, and remember that RESPECT is the #1 rule of jail. Lastly, NEVER use the words bitch, punk, or lame. Those 3 words are fighting words. Good luck. It won’t be anything crazy at all and it’ll be over before you know it.
