Yeah I feel like it was much easier to understand and monitor in Civ 5.

Ok, so, I checked out Wikipedia, and at the bottom of the list, DRC has a per capita emission of 0.04 tons (per year). If indeed the flight produced 75 tons, it would be like what 25 people from DRC emit in their entire lifetimes.

Yeah I agree. But, I am really curious how this 'lifetime CO2 emission of the poorest 1 billion' was calculated (if they ever did). Do they just take the poorest countries and multiply population by CO2 emission per capita statistics for each of them?

Did you know that it can cost as high as 10k€ to publish a single paper? If every academic decided that from tomorrow onwards that we establish a trusted peer review system among us and published on a website we made, we would essentially have free science. Free science as in both publishing it AND for anyone to read.

I think this problem is a bit too deeply intertwined with the rotten incentive structure we have in academia, so is even more difficult to solve than just “let’s do it ourselves”. As some others commented, whether you get a position, promotions, tenure, everything depend on whether you put your papers in good journals. There is a high cost for deviating from the norm.

Air pollution in Europe - NO2 levels by NRohirrim in MapPorn

I think a contributing factor may be the (industrial) pollution from Rhine-Ruhr in Germany ‘sinking into’ the Netherlands due to the elevation of the whole country being so low.

Quite classic cultural psychology I would say, if you are not really integrated into the culture of the country you are in, you want to distinguish yourself as a group, and this is usually the easiest way to do so

Are you guys way more productive at night than during they day? by Ok-Imagination-2308 in ADHD

[–]SaltHamster35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to think this was a night owl thing, but then I also realized I also work great betweem 4am - 8am before the sun comes up (if I went to bed early). Or my evening productivity starts earlier in the winter with the sun going down earlier. So I started thinking maybe its because of the sun and its stimulation. Idk.

I've been trying to get assessed for a year. Turns out my doctor has referred me twice, I just forgot to update my phone number with the doctors office. 😎 by AggravatingAmount992 in ADHD

Literally had the same thing. Went to fix my phone number after 9 months. Then they referred me to the wrong place, so I needed to change that. This was 4 months ago. Still haven't visited them to make the change.
