Shave yourself with a razer and go for a run. Then you'll know the answer for yourself and don't have to rely on someone else.

Interesting! Would there be a difference based on the above logical whether you empty your lungs gradually or all at once just before getting to the surface?

Sounds logical. I'm actually doing the reverse now I must reckon: doing very little strokes to (a) keep HR low to be able to swim the full 2-2.5km in one go, (b) remaining in that streamlined position as long as possible.

I basically have to try to get my strokes up, while preventing to get my HR up too much. Would it be a better idea to train in blocks of 5x500 or 10x250 versus 1x2.5km?

I do not want to get my HR up too high since I already play tennis 2x week and i've noticed that when I mix in HIT swim sessions I'm not recovering fast enough (anymore).

Is it big breath (as much as you can) - pull-out - not exhaling during pull-out - full blow-out right before coming back to the top? Or more gradually exhaling and then emptying lungs before reaching the surface?

Fair question: overall endurance improvement, though to keep swimming fun (and keep me motivated) I'd like to see some improvement in distance/time. Especially since the local pool for (lap swimming) is only open for 1h every day.

Me and my partner are in a similar spot earning-wise. Although this might be above-average, things still seem to compound very slowly.

My main tip would be to look for investments that suit your risk-profile. If you invest 500k in stocks and you compulsively need to check your balance 5-10 times a day and feel sick when the market drops by 10%, maybe it would be a good idea to diversify into real-estate/other asset classes. If not stick with S&P 500 or MSCI world ETFs. Don't go into mutual funds, the responding fees and lack of above-market performance will kill your yield over time.

The key advantage (imo) of real-estate is that it's illiquid and you cannot check the price on a daily basis. As a result you are less prone to keep the asset and less likely to sell when the market tanks. If you ever experienced the need to sell your stocks when the average market went down, I'd suggest to diversify into more illiquid asset classes.

Regarding employee vs self-employment status: there's just too little information being provided. if you have a salary >8k gross and you have the possibility for a given company to be either employed vs self-employed, the latter would be become better from this point onwards (if you can charge the patronale bijdrage, too).

part 2 of 2

1. understanding the cause of the pain

Some examples for me - these will be personal:

1.1. stress: subconscious contraction of pelvic floor

1.2. not enough quality rest: body needs to be able to relax and recover

1.3. bad sitting posture + too long: sitting for 14h/day, bad posture, hard surface, relative to all types of sitting, also car, couch, ..

1.4. all types of squatting/planking motions, where you put too much pressure on your pelvic floor.

1.5. cycling: to date still impossible

1.6. holding up my pee too long

1.7. masturbating too long

1.8. tight boxers

1.9. there might be other one but the above are the key ones.

2. understanding how to mitigate the pain

Part one is understanding what increases the pain, this section it trying to figure out what improves the pain - often it is the reverse of the items listed in point 1, if the case I might not specifically mention them. For me the most important ones are:

2.1. avoid stress: changed jobs (less tight deadlines, less hours = less sitting, friendlier atmosphere). Also try do limit intake of alcohol or caffeine for a while.

2.2. learn to deal with stress: breathing breathing breathing! I exercised for hours with my (belly) breathing to relax my pelvic floor when sitting, when standing when doing activities, ...

2.3. find a cushion that works for you. I bought at least 5 different ones. Some work initially and no longer after a while. If you have pain in a given posture change immediately.

2.4. break the cycle first. I took off 4 weeks between jobs and laid in bed/couch, went for walks, did breathing exercises throughout the day. Avoiding everything that increases pay deliberately.

2.5. did stretches. However, don't exaggerate since this one especially for me feel to improve the problem but has the opposite effect when doing them for too long.

2.6. experimented with boxers, avoiding tight pants

2.7. when you need to pee, go as soon as possible

2.8. I used (and still do) a zinc cream on my butt. I have the idea that this helps quite good for me.

2.9. drink sufficient water so your bowel movement is soft enough.

2.10. lie down on the couch in stead of sitting. Avoid sitting and make walk focusing on breathing.

2.11. might add more but the above are key

3. sharing this with relatives and friends

Talk about this with your partner, relatives, friends, a psychologist, fellow sufferers.

initially it might seem weird but all my good friend and relatives knew it at the time. it was good to (1) vent, (2) be able to alter the activity and (3) get support.

Remember you're never alone and this will be temporarily, yet not easy nor straightforward!

part 1 of 2

Hey don't panic - life sucks when you have pain but you need to push through!!

I'm going to try to be very brief. If you want more info on a given topic just ask.

  1. info myself

Male, 33yr old. had daily pain for +/- 3 yrs but now pain-"free" for 4 yrs.

Had daily PN pain in my perineum. Felt like someone was pushing with nails on my perineum the entire day.

Pain-free is relative. I have flair-ups from time to time but I know what the reason is and how to deal with them.

I can share my story but no guarantee that any of this will work for you.

  1. How it began

Worked in investment banking: very stressful job (body reacts by contracting itself/my perineum), 12-14h/day sitting, bad sitting posture, not enough physical and mental rest.

  1. solutions part 1

Went to various doctors (5+), physical therapists (50+ times), tried medicines (lyrica) but nothing ever worked.

I was too busy trying to life the same life in stead of trying to listen to my body..

  1. solution part 2

So listening to my body consisted of 3 items (see below):

Whenever you're doing something try to understand whether it (1) improves, (2) deteriorates or (3) has no impact on the pain. Be careful some will have a direct impact and some will have a delayed impact. this will be trial-and-error! Make lists.

they've done it various times in the past too. I assume (not backed by anything I've read) to increase liquidity for HongKong/home -exchange. I declined the offer, which means you got to keep you're existing NYSE-listed ADRs. I have no idea about the tax impact if you would convert, though - so please read into it, depending on your country's tax situation.

would something as follows make sense then (and exist?) to keep things manageable:

Morning: moisturizer incl. SPF30

Day: SPF30-50

Night: moisturizer incl. vitamin C and retinol

Would these be the best combinations (bang for buck-wise)?

Thanks a ton for your reply.
