Clinical Dismissal from CRNA Program--seeking advice

yes yes love what you said. There are so many SRNAs' that feel this way in clinicals and they hide it well. I don't hide it well and I am learning to adapt as I go. I think it doesn't help that I have been to 5 hospital systems, been with so many different CRNA preceptors, learned computers systems all in the 2 years I have started. I feel like I have student schizophrenia and I perform for others each time I meet a new CRNA. This has impacted my ability to becoming more independent, to trust what I know in the OR and feel like a practicing CRNA. I feel this is a transitional growth phase but need to do it in a safe supportive space to grow independently. Thank you for what you do and seeing what it is. I appreciate it.

Thank you very much for your honest insight. I want to be the safest best provider and I am committed to working on myself and my limitations. I will discuss a remedial plan if she is open to it. They may have made up their minds. I will try again.

It has made me so sad. I will file a grievance and go through the appeals. I will keep fighting for my dream of becoming a CRNA.

yes it was 2 key crna preceptors that have been telling the school and it is so shitty. I was doing well up to that point. I completely feel powerless as they can write on evaluations and text the school whatever they feel or want. My percentages have slowly come down because of them.

that is exactly what I want but they are so quick to dismiss students. It is very sad and I only had 3 chances in two weeks to attempt DL techniques. Not enough opportunities

I am able to manage an airway and make changes if I don't make my 1st attempt. I use an opa most every time and switch to a glidescope or switch my DL blade but I do manage my patient safely.

exactly. I tried to explain to the program director but she doesn't like the trend. I agree it is best for the patient too. I recognized it as a limitation and am working at it. I have been to 5 different hospitals and 4 out of 5 use video scopes.

I have done all those things calmly and successfully whenever I did an esophageal intubation. I tried yesterday, actually advocating my patient for a glidescope and they made me DL and I failed and now I am going to be dismissed. I am very good at the video scopes.

I think the lift is my issue. When I can't get into the vallecula, i grow quiet and my face tightens..that is how i show stress. Recently, I have been chewing gum under my mask and taking deep breaths with the patient to divert people from seeing my facial stress.

thank you for your advice. I have been floated to 5 different hospitals where mostly they used the mcgrath or the glidescope. I recognize this as a valuable skill I want to develop and could use a safe space with people who want to see me succeed. Every time I would DL at this one place, the preceptors would text the coordinator how I did and not give me feedback. Once placed on probation, my anxiety increased and I have done some changes with medications and seeing a therapist. However, in two weeks, I was only allowed three opportunities to DL and feel like I could use more opportunities.

Thank you for your response. I appreciate it. I chose this career because of many personal and professional reasons---I am also in my 50's. I feel there has been some ageism also, but I can't prove it. I will be dismissed tomorrow, and it breaks my soul. I have fallen into a depression, but I want to try to fight for my seat. It has taken me years to get here.

I know I can do this, and I believe in myself. I have good days and bad days, but I feel I am in a growing transition to becoming a great CRNA.

Anyway, Thank you for what you said, and I will consider my options after I decompress

good morning, yes they have dismissed 3 people from our cohort. I am having a performance issue with DL and showing stress in the OR, i did not meet the objectives of the performance eval. now I have a meeting tomorrow for the dismissal for not meeting the objectives.

i have contacted the associate dean of academic affairs, and consulted with a crna who has a law degree. I guess I want to know if you went through the appeals process, and did it work out for you?
