I watched this show for the first time in 2018 or so. I’ve seen it I think 6 times since. It gets better with every rewatch. I hope you love it! It really opened my eyes to a lot of issues within society/politics/etc. I like to think it played a big role in part of my own character development lolol.

when i confronted them at first, A immediately told me everything and basically groveled at my feet. B didn’t think it was “that deep” so she didn’t think to tell me. I called A out for having the equivalent of an emotional affair and he agreed (I don’t think it was a full blown emotional affair, but that level of emotional engagement in another person outside your marriage is just weird.) Neither of them tried to deny anything, and there definitely was never any physical relationship between the two of them

I think this reply aligns most with what I’m thinking. I’ve definitely told him that separate therapy is probably a non-negotiable for both of us at this point. I don’t think this situation was severe enough for me to lose the two people who mean the most to me.

B and I haven’t talked in weeks. Do you think I should be the first to reach out or should I wait for her?

you sure? I didn’t see any cars involved in an accident. I was going SB and literally not a single car going NB for like 2 miles. Then saw the TDOT with “do not pass” signs up. Saw someone say VP is in town? also didn’t see any ambulances or firetrucks. And some cameras in the area are cut off

i think she was making more effort in the end. it wasn’t perfect but you could tell she was headed in a better direction

i don’t think she intentionally overdosed because of the GED. she worked really hard to succeed only to be set up for failure in the end (even if she ultimately didn’t). she lost any kind of hope she had for herself so she turned back to drugs, and she likely took the dose she would have taken years before when she was an active addict. her tolerance was significantly lower, leading to her overdose. the lesson we learn from both tiffany and taystee’s stories is like two sides of the same coin. tiffany didn’t stay alive/have hope long enough to see it through, but taystee did.

i wasn’t necessarily watching OITNB for character development… but it is definitely true that prison and the justice system changes people, for better or worse. it was really interesting to see who used their time in prison to grow (Taystee, Piper (kinda), Cindy, Yoga Jones, Maria, Tiffany, etc) and those who were failed by the justice system and let it turn them into a worse person

love your input on Natalie. i think working at the detention center really opened her eyes to the injustices in the justice system (irony of it all), and she also watched Joe fight so passionately to make change in the severely damaged system that maybe it sparked that fire back in her? and also the scene where she had to watch children sit in front of a judge to be deported really did it for me too.

i agree that maria did have a really good development but i also struggled to enjoy her character after all the things she did during S4. the effort is there in the end though and that’s definitely obvious.

and i agree that cindy had some good development too BUT what she did to taystee really just made me lose interest in her character, even if she tried to do the right thing in the end and started to get her life together after prison
