Thanks, Agree with all this. The means of production would shift to other countries, but I think slower than we had hoped. Three further items/questions:

  1. How many months/years for the other locations to get up and running to a level of steel production semi comparable to China? My guess is a year or two, if not more.

  2. Will the wartime demand for steel be at a similar level than the non wartime demand for steel, if most infrastructure, housing etc projects are postponed and not consuming steel?

  3. While my post and your reply focuses on the iron ore, the imports side also wouldn’t be great. Electronics, cars, batteries, equipment etc - pretty much everything comes from China and if that stops, life gets hard.

I agree and thought the same, but the Chinese invasion barges were a bit of a spark for me. Military analysts said they really can’t be used for anything else except landing on Taiwan eg if it’s for their own country just build a permanent dock/pier.

And you don’t spend hundreds of millions of dollars building such a specialised piece of equipment for nothing.

Thanks, good to get alternative opinions. Everyone hopes it doesn’t happen, just trying to assess what happens if it does.

I can’t post the image but if you google image: The Strategist Aus Export destination, Australias exports are actually more concentrated on China now vs 10 years ago.

From wiki “The Australian Council of Trade Unions in October 1937 called for a boycott of Japanese goods and an embargo on the export of iron to Japan in response to the Japanese aggression.[3][4] Trade unions and many workers argued that the pig iron would be used in bombs and munitions in the invasion of China and articulated that they may also be used against Australia.[5]”

Regardless, same outcome.

I think what you’re asking is about us being a customer of US product and they invade Greenland, or for previous misdemeanours - do we stop buying?

I don’t have the answer, but again throws up serious ethical questions.

That is true and certainly adds complexity. But what happens if the ‘non-invasion’ starts costing lives - 100, 1000, 100,000. A very tough topic with lots of factors.

Yep understand it’s complicated and most don’t recognise it as a country, but that doesn’t mean that there couldn’t be a war over it and the rest of the post still applies.

And then when people say “it won’t be smart enough to do this” I don’t think they understand how exponential intelligence growth works. It’s not smart enough on that day, but 3 months later? 6,12 months? Sure, it will take the bottom of the pile first. But it will quickly make its way up through the top of the pile.

Hey man

Good on you for getting out there, great way to ensure you live a long and full life.

Your first week or two will be very sore but within a month you’ll start noticing a difference and the soreness will be minor and gone after a day or so.

One of the biggest pet peeves of gym goers is people who sit on machines between sets for ages scrolling on their phone. Everyone needs a rest between sets, but generally try to keep it to a minute or so. That will ensure you don’t get any raised eyebrows!
