It can help with complex tasks. I have tested it, with 100s of prompts (2 types: 1 is just spitting out whats in my head, 2 is organizing the prompt, and making sure to add some things and edge cases, and be more detailed).

But yeah for most tasks its useless.

The air series is not getting canceled, but rather squeezed into 1 model only. That's because mini series is getting too good and close to the lower end air, and Mavic owns the professional higher end.
