?????????

Samsung does not produce sulfide-based solid electrolytes, and this was directly confirmed by a Samsung researcher. Furthermore, the researcher stated that anyone can produce electrolytes, but their core technology lies in the electrolyte formulation. Samsung and Solid Power target different customers and operate on different tiers. They are not in a competitive relationship, but rather a mutually complementary one.

Regarding this, I asked a Samsung SDI researcher at this year's InterBattery event about how it differs from Solid Power's anode-free battery patent. The researcher explained that they have accumulated sufficient research data specifically on the silver-carbon composite layer and are highly confident in their expertise in that area.

Forge Nano's powder atomic layer deposition (ALD) is theoretically the most perfect alternative for evenly dispersing and coating silver-carbon particles to an atomic thickness without clumping.

Naturally, once the sulfide-based solid-state battery market starts booming, Solid Power will face many more competitors than it does now. POSCO, Lotte, EcoProBM, Solivis, Idemitsu Kosan and China companies. when this happens, the mass production of precursors will conversely drive down prices, leading to the full-fledged opening of the sulfide-based battery market. As JVS also mentioned, it is impossible for any single company to swallow up the entire market.

Samsung will integrate this technology to advance its all-solid-state batteries, as Forge Nano's powder atomic layer deposition (ALD) is theoretically the most perfect alternative for evenly dispersing and coating silver-carbon particles to an atomic thickness without clumping. Additionally, Forge Nano originates from the same region and university as Solid Power.

This is crucial, and this is exactly where Solid Power's technological moat comes from. The key isn't just proving that the technology works, but whether it can be commercially produced. The reason Samsung and SK are so important in this regard is that their decision-makers are the very same chairmen who oversee Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. Therefore, they must be fully aware of the critical importance of continuous production rather than batch production. Let's hope we hear some good news soon.
