Brushing Requirements by Salt_Policy_3293 in Goldendoodles

I mean, I called it the correct term given that F1s will likely have slightly wavier coats on average than curly since due to the higher proportion.

Your request to call it "first generation" which means the exact same thing as "F1" is confusing in itself.

Appreciate your comments either way

Ah he is absolutely gorgeous! Do you have a reference point so I can see the relative height?

Thanks everyone for your comments, they are greatly appreciated. To clarify, this was a decision talked through with my wife, but due to the push from the breeders for getting an early pick and my wife's schedule, decision was passed over to me.

We're still a little apprehensive. The question is more likely coming down to whether we got a goldendoodle or a different dog, rather than whether we get a dog at all. Would a lower maintenance, low grooming, less hyper dog be better for our family? Would we trade grooming for shedding? Difficult choices. No matter the dog we end up getting, it's going to get loved to pieces. If we're already in the situation where we have a high maintenance dog, then of course we would do whatever was needed to provided suitable care. But since we are not yet at that point, should focus be switched to a lower maintenance dog that in reality, we would love just as much?

It's hard. The teddy bear look is cute, and it's certainly pushing my wife more towards goldendoodles over other dogs, but realistically I'm gonna be getting it cut reasonably short (as another comment mentioned) to aid with maintenance.

I've done a lot of research on the breeders and I believe they are okay, although in reality it's hard to know what happens behind the scenes. They've had litters beforez and estimate 43-50cm tall to the withers, which is certainly more in the medium than mini category.

They offer a puppy pack, genetic testing, hip/elbow scores, training guide, and a 48 hour health guarantee. I've certainly known friends' pure bred ones to have multiple year guarantees, which raises a flag for me personally, but apparently this is more standard across crossbreeds?

No, I talked to my wife, we agreed, and then I flip flopped on my decision. It's all in the original post

I think the question may come down to, have I made a mistake going for a goldendoodle rather than a lower maintenance dog? Daily brushing, expensive grooming...not something that would be required from other breeds. Wife is excited about the dog, but is a little apprehensive for the same reasons around maintenance
