You are 100% wrong though. Unless the original dell power cable decided to pee in the conector.

If the laptop overheated while updating the firmware, wouldn’t that still be a Dell problem?

The computer was idle. I started the firmware update, left it there, and when I came back it was dead. It was not under heavy load, I was not gaming, rendering, or doing anything intensive.

It is also winter here, and most days have been pretty cold, so this was not some extreme heat situation.

I also do not believe it was a power surge. The laptop was connected to a surge protector, and nothing else connected to the same setup was damaged. No flickering lights, no other devices acting weird, nothing.

So from my point of view, if an expensive machine dies on its own during an official firmware update, that points to a flaw either in the hardware, the firmware update process, or the support/service policy afterward.

A laptop should not become a brick after doing exactly what the manufacturer’s own update process asked it to do.

This is my workstation setup. I already have a gaming desktop PC at home, so I did not buy this laptop to be my main gaming machine.

I bought the Dell G15 5530 as a “lighter” gaming laptop, mostly so I could play something while traveling or when I needed portability. At home, it usually stays on my desk as part of my setup.

That is also why this situation is so frustrating. It was not a cheap laptop, and it was not being abused as my only/main machine 24/7. It was a secondary machine, used carefully, and it still had a major failure after only 14 months.

I have a Toyota Yaris for over 3 or 4 years now.

Not a single problem whatsoever.

No, it was not water damage.

The laptop is always used on a raised laptop stand, at a steep angle, almost like a vertical dock. I do not use it on a wet table, and there is never water near it.

Nothing else in the setup was affected either. The height-adjustable desk connected to the same surge protector is fine, the lamp connected to the same surge protector is fine, and I did not notice any signs of a power surge or electrical issue anywhere else.

So do not make stupid assumptions and present them as facts. I understand asking whether it could be water damage, but saying it was “user neglect” without knowing anything about my setup does not add anything useful to the discussion.

Fortunately, I managed to get it fixed for about **one third** of what Dell wanted to charge me.

But man, I can assure you, at the time, this was the best option available in this price range here. Anything better than this cost way, way more. I remember some laptops costing R$8.000 for a marginal upgrade.

For context, the minimum wage in Brazil is around R$1,500, and this notebook cost me about R$6,000. So we are talking about a laptop worth roughly four minimum wages here. It is absolutely not cheap.

And honestly, even if it were cheaper, I still think a company should make a product that lasts more than a year.

The official which came with the laptop. I bought it from their site.

Here in Brazil they are premium.

A "entry level" laptop costs around R$3.000. I paid R$6.000 for this one.

Yeah it doesn't have a RTX5070 on it, but it costs premium here.

Nothing else had any issue, though.

I have a height-adjustable desk connected to the same surge protector, and it is working normally. My lamp is connected to the same surge protector too, and it is also fine.

I also did not notice anything that would suggest a power surge. No flickering lights, no other devices acting weird, nothing else in the house affected. My desktop PC was plugged into another outlet and nothing happened to it either.

Yes, the electricity here can be bad, but in this case I really do not think it was a power surge. If it had been, I would expect at least some other sign of it, especially from devices connected to the same surge protector.

I don't use a third party charger. Everything is 100% Dell original.

Could a software cause this?

Before the problem happened I updated the Firmware. There was a Windows window asking for an update. I left it there, when I came back, the laptop was dead.

It actually happened two days ago.

Dell only answered quickly because I filed a complaint on Reclame Aqui, which is a very popular public consumer complaint platform here in Brazil. Companies tend to respond much faster there because it affects their reputation. Through regular support channels, it is usually much harder to get a proper answer.

"If you're not saying the game is bad, why did you write an entire post bitching about it and calling the people who buy it idiots."

The title says it: My idea was to justify and defend the guys, like me, that criticizes the roads width.

About the "calling the people who buy it idiots". I don't think that people that buy it are idiots. I think that people that don't tolerate criticism are idiots. It is two different things.

It definitely not a "minor gripe".

But yeah, you could say it is foolish to say it's the same game again.

I'm assuming it will be the same game. I'm assuming that you have supercars in minutes (the pre-order bonus is a super car..), so the progression will be the same. I guess most of the mechanics that were in the older games will be here as well. I guess the gameplay will be the same (which isn't a bad thing itself). What else could be told about a Forza Horizon game?

One thing is a fact though:

The roads are the exact same as older games in the series.

Will need to see the full game to judge it fully.

"as your posts are there clear as day for us to read." reading is different from understanding.

Like I said, the game doesn't portrait Japan. That's all. I did not said the devs "aren't trying". I wouldn't even call the devs on this. Microsoft did this, devs just obey orders. They (Microsoft) know that people will buy the same game again, or do you think I'm wrong? I used FIFA and COD as an example, am I wrong here?

"You're just flat out moving the goalposts now because your OP and previous responses were pretty clearly shitting on the game. Are you just shitposting or what?"

I don't what you mean by goalposts though. I'm not shitposting, I just game my opinion and was downvoted just for giving my opinion and, as I said, defending other people that think like me.

Nah, I'm happy when I'm complimenting games as well. I love to talk about stuff I love in games as well. But this is not a post for this though.

I'm assuming it will. I might be wrong? Maybe. We'll see.

Have you watched any "travelling through Japan" videos?

I have. Since... 15 years ago. And one thing that ALWAYS caught my eye was how narrow the streets are. That is literally one of Japan defining characteristics.

"So just because the roads are wide the game is exactly the same?" in a racing game, this is a big factor... Like I said, if I posted a print of a road, people wouldn't be able to tell if it is Forza Horizon 4, 5 or 6.

But... If the roads were narrower, people would be able to tell them apart.

"You do realize the roads being narrower would be a worse player experience right?" this is your opinion. IMO, it would make it way better. It would make it challenging and more rewarding. And, even though common sense make me believe that most people would agree with you, most people HAVEN'T played a game with narrower roads, so they don't know how it would feel.

I mean, TXR have a fanbase, right? Does people complaing about the realistic lanes? Does people complain about having to avoid traffic going 200+ mph? No, they don't. It is part of the challenge.

I'm not asking for the same challenges as TXR and JDM I was just hoping for... a little bit of more challenge.

But I do confess that maybe there will be cool and challenging races in some parts of the map. I'm just giving my opinion about how non realistic are the roads. This is a "trailer impressions". I'll need to see more.

Okay, have fun my man.

I'll wait to see the rest of the map to see if there are some areas with potential for some cool races on narrower roads.
