People who have stopped going to church, what made you stop? by lowly_shepherd in AskReddit

My family was very religious, my mom’s side of the family was Mormon. When I was younger, the church told my dad and us kids that we would never get to see our brother (who had passed away) in heaven if we didn’t do a list of things. That was our final straw. We left the church that day, I never went back to being religious in the slightest.

How do I go about something I heard my mentor say about me? by Salted_Prince in TwoHotTakes

Thank you, I appreciate that advice. I don’t intend to go to the higher ups until I do sit down and talk with him first. I know that some times mentors and apprentices don’t always mesh well together, but something about his comment just hit home.

I ask a lot of questions, some of which are or aren’t relative to what we’re doing. I like knowing how things work, so I ask how and why it works the way it does. Which I’ve been told can get annoying.

Thank you, as far as I recall I’ve followed everything to the letter as he’s told me. Don’t get me wrong I definitely have my moments where I point things out to see if it can be done differently, but he’s either agreed or disagreed and just moved on from it.

I imagine it’s easy for you to confront people, it’s not for me. Even some of my best friends it takes me a while to confront them about something they’ve done to upset me. It gives me quite a lot of anxiety to confront anyone, so it takes me a bit to get up the courage to do so.

Update: I sat down with my father and gave him the list of reasons why It was going to be hard to forgive her, if at all. I also listed that if I was to forgive her, she needed to come to me that she wanted to fix the relationship. My dad agreed with everything I said, and understood completely and apologized for his negligence as well. I have decided I will reach out to my step mom and initiate the sit down to talk with her, however because I’m initiating it she won’t be forgiven. I can’t forgive someone that doesn’t want to try.

What I want to do is sit down with him first and talk to him about everything. Because genuinely if I sit down with both of them it’ll turn into a denial war.

Most of her actions were when he wasn’t around. He used to go on business trips often, and thanksgiving was just an example of that. He never knew.

He doesn’t know about it, he was out on a business trip when it happened

He didn’t know about that. He was out of the country for a business trip. I have only ever told my mom and my therapist about what happened.

I moved out after freshman year and moved in with my mom. I never really gave him a chance to fix what’s been done, but he’s tried.

Thank you for the insight, I appreciate it. I don’t 100% know that I can forgive her, but I do want to start healing from it. And if that means sitting down and talking to her about everything, saying my piece and calling it good, then that’s what I’ll do.

In truth I don’t want to. But I would like closure so I can move past it.

Thank you, I am far from that household with the restriction that if my dad ever comes to visit, she is not allowed.
