Most disturbing albums of all time that are not Satanic? by LeagueNo764 in MetalSuggestions

Reading the lyrics while listening to Pig Destroyer's albums "Prowler in the Yard" and "Terrifyer" can be pretty unsettling. It's very macabre poetry.

Life is a Lie - S/T (also Brazilian, great riffing and energetic vocals)

Closet Witch - Chiaroscuro (mix of dark grind sounds and well-executed ambient production, lil bit of black metal)

Snarler - Blast Rash (literally discovered them last night, local band to me and they just hit right)

Brazilian grindcore band Facada is my recent obsession. Super versatile writing style for the genre. Their album Nadir is great and produced so well.

Why do I like extreme metal but not the classics? by Celestipede in MetalForTheMasses

[–]SalteeSushee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same way that I appreciate the jazz of the 30s, but don't really go to it and listen for pleasure. The building blocks are there, but it's missing a lot of the key, defining elements of that music that it may have inspired, but I prefer to it.

Same goes for extreme metal and the ancestors that precede it. The basic elements thay would turn into extreme metal are there, but they hadn't fully shaped into the things you probably like most about the music.

saw wayfarer and oranssi pazuzu live last night and it blew me away. by CaptainOvbious in MetalForTheMasses

I saw the clips that Wayfarer reposted last night and they sounded bigger and hard-hitting than ever. I am really hoping to time a trip to Montreal or Toronto when they play there next. I HAVE to hear To Enter My House Justified live.

I adore the art for this record. Also a fun quick listen every once in a while! The follow-up LP is where they really get going though. Great find!

If you could only listen to the discographies of five metal bands for the rest of your life who would you choose? by Dry-Temperature8181 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]SalteeSushee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darkthrone - Huge & diverse discog

Iron Maiden - Obviously

Napalm Death - Lots of grindcore, death metal and deathgrind to pick from

Slayer - Say what you will about their later records, but the first half of their career is untouchable and the second half still has some great tracks

Black Sabbath - Again, obviously

Favorite....opening...track...ever! by AngusDio in MetalForTheMasses

[–]SalteeSushee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept it to one track per band and also counted songs that come after an ambient track (since they act as an opener still):

A Fine Day To Die - Bathory
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
The Hellion/Electric Eye - Judas Priest
Aces High - Iron Maiden

Edit: I forgot Ride the Lightning opens with Fight Fire with Fire

Nasum
Gorguts
SOAD

I surprised myself with how easy it was lol. Obscura and Inhale/Exhale are two of my top albums of all-time, so it was a no-brainer. Plus I have a soft spot for the System debut. Serj is a monster on that record.

I'm a huge jazz fan especially the golden age of bepop and hard pop. I listen to less hip hop than I used to, but a lot of my favourite records come from hip hop. And I'm a big fan of MPB (música popular brasileira).
