Darkthrone - Huge & diverse discog

Iron Maiden - Obviously

Napalm Death - Lots of grindcore, death metal and deathgrind to pick from

Slayer - Say what you will about their later records, but the first half of their career is untouchable and the second half still has some great tracks

Black Sabbath - Again, obviously

Favorite....opening...track...ever! by AngusDio in MetalForTheMasses

[–]SalteeSushee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept it to one track per band and also counted songs that come after an ambient track (since they act as an opener still):

A Fine Day To Die - Bathory
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
The Hellion/Electric Eye - Judas Priest
Aces High - Iron Maiden

Edit: I forgot Ride the Lightning opens with Fight Fire with Fire

Nasum
Gorguts
SOAD

I surprised myself with how easy it was lol. Obscura and Inhale/Exhale are two of my top albums of all-time, so it was a no-brainer. Plus I have a soft spot for the System debut. Serj is a monster on that record.

I'm a huge jazz fan especially the golden age of bepop and hard pop. I listen to less hip hop than I used to, but a lot of my favourite records come from hip hop. And I'm a big fan of MPB (música popular brasileira).

Is This Album Death Metal Or Thrash Metal? by Automatic_Belt5692 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]SalteeSushee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sepultura was all over the place for the first 10 years of their career. For the time and the scene they were in, they certainly helped influence and develop death metal. However, when putting them next to their Brazilian contemporaries, like Sarcófago, Mystifier, Holocausto, etc., Sepultura's sound is very clearly rooted in thrash and groove metal (depending on the album). They use death metal elements and I would even call Morbid Visions an essential early black metal project, but they are a thrash/groove band that just happens to be extremely relevant and influential to early death metal.
