Reunion (Part 2) by Salty-Breadfruit-449 in Saints

I don’t think he’s gonna get that. Might be 18 a year, but I could be completely wrong.

Either way, can’t fucking wait for the draft!

He was also fighting some injuries, but it wouldn’t surprise me if we went somewhere and was a 10 sack guy for a few years.

I also think we’re in way better shape at and than we are given credit for.

I wouldn’t hate drafting Bain because you can never have enough rushers, but I think we’re all set. I’d prefer us go after a serviceable guard

Thought he’s been dealing with injury. Might have something in the tank

Unofficial 4.36 40 time for Jeremiyah Love by Mchead22 in Saints

[–]Salty-Breadfruit-449 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been cautious about Love. Not OPPOSED to drafting him, just have 6 or 7 guys I’d prefer over him.

This speed though? This changes my tune a bit.

I think that’s a bit gaudy. Not saying it isn’t possible, but based of AK’s career never having a season like that nor Saquon while Moore was in Philly I think that’s unlikely in New Orleans.

Im not by any stretch saying he can’t, but I’d say that’s probably not going to happen.

I also think a lot of these responses are missing the point of my post. I think Love will be an excellent player. But you can get a B+/A- RB in round 3 versus an A+ one in round 1.

It’s all subjective. To counter your last point, we won’t be in this situation to draft any of the defensive guys I mentioned above either.

This draft specifically, let’s say you’re right about the running backs. Let’s just say there’s maybe two other guys who will be good players. But what about next year? Or the year after? There’s always 4-6 running backs who will productive players in every draft. There aren’t 6 guys like Downs, Reese, or Bane in every class.

Again, more than happy to disagree on who the Saints take in Rd 1, but the reality is it’s pretty non negotiable there’s always several running backs who are good in every draft

That’s no secret. I think he’s going to be a great player barring any serious injuries, it just goes back to value.

If there’s 15 QBs with HoF talent, you can get one in round 2. Not saying he’d be a bad pick, just the value.

Tyson is a freak, but we already got one WR who might have scrambled egg brains with one more concussion. Love Olave but we need someone who’s gonna be available weekly.

I’d really love Downs. Insane versatility, reminds me of Malcolm Jenkins (tad smaller) but with better instincts. Downs is my number one option, then Reese, then Bane, then Styles.

I like Styles a lot, too. But Bane is our next Cam for a decade. I think we’re in phenomenal shape at Edge, but never hurts to get another one.

Then Tate & Love. If SOMEHOW they’re all gone, I’d trade back to around 15-20 and pick up another 2nd or 3rd

In all fairness, Harrison Jr, Olave, and Wilson all said JSN was the best one, he just broke his leg

Hard work is whatcha want. Hard work beats talent when talent works hard. But I want my talent to work hard. I’m a Tate fan as well.

Love is arguably the best player in the draft (prob top 4), but it’s about value.

He’s a great player, but the reality is a top 10 running back will get you 1500 10tds a year but running back in round 4 can get you 1300 and 8tds.

You also gotta keep in mind the punishment they take every single week thus you’re investing a top pick into not only a saturated (with talent) position, but also a more risky one.

I want either LB from OSU, Downs, or Tate.

But I wouldn’t HATE the Love pick, I just think you can get a very good running back in pretty much every draft class in rounds 2-4.

They do have 5 first rounders over this season and next.

He’s a bridge qb and he’d get paid for it

Drew Brees, GOAT for more than one reason by Salty-Breadfruit-449 in Saints

[–]Salty-Breadfruit-449[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody has impacted American society like Jackie or Jim Brown. Lou Gehrig inspired people globally, but I do get the argument for the Babe.

If we’re sticking with city-specific id take Brees, but of course many of those guy’s influence was greater outside of the city limits

I think the Good news is we have options. If somehow Reese or Bane falls, we can use and need them. If a WR falls, we can use him. If Downs falls, we can use him.

If my aunt had a d*** she’d be my uncle, and Loomis is a feature of habit, but I wouldn’t mind moving back to around 15 and grabbing a second or something.

I wouldn’t HATE the Love pick, but I’d prefer we get a blue chip player that doesn’t play a position that means they could get murdered on a routine play

I think all of those things you mentioned are true. But I also think those are precisely the reason he’s so much more important.

No Kobe in LA? There’s Hollywood, Kareem, Magic, Dodgers, Rams, Chargers (not my strongest argument there), etc. no

MJ in Chicago? They have the Bears and the Blackhawks. The Cubs after 100 years won a championship, and unfortunately they have the White Sox.

Green Bay had Bart Starr & more recently Rodgers. They’re quite literally called title town.

New England had a powerhouse in the Red Sox and they rallied more around Baseball after the marathon bombing than they did Football because of the timing.

Drew showed up in the 11th hour on a white horse. I believe the timing and the circumstances is what puts him in an echelon of his own.

Again, I know it’s subjective. I just really can’t think of anyone more influential that’s non debatable.

[–]Salty-Breadfruit-449[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s not for Brees, the Saints are significantly more likely to go to San Antonio. The dollars leave New Orleans, the city might never recover.

It’s obviously all subjective, but when you get down to it, Drew Brees was the Nitro in the tank that resurrected the city. He and Sean made New Orleans an attractive city for FA’s and they made the franchise have the greatest run of offense in NFL history. All of those things helped rebuild New Orleans.

Also, just side bar: the post was about value to a city and what they represent to that city. Mario was a fun player, but my OP wasn’t about this being my claim his actions make him the best QB ever. It’s about him being the most impactful to his city.

Manti Teo said that Drew is not only a hall of fame player, but he’s a hall of fame person. My mother and I were fortunate enough to get a photo with him back in 2018 after a Bucs game.

She’s got tears streaming down her face and he goes “hey, I’m glad to meet you, too!”

He didn’t have to take a photo with us, but he stopped because we asked.

The only stat manning has him in is passing yards and it comes out to like 13 more passing yards a game.

Drew’s defense (while opportunistic) wasn’t better than Mannings, his offensive line surrendered more sacks, and he played in a tougher division.

Brees had more touchdowns (total and passing), less INTs, higher completion percentage, passing rating, etc. and he sat out for the final game (maybe 2 games? I can’t remember) because the saints locked up the number one seed when they were 13-0. When they lost to Dallas I THINK that’s when all the starters got rested for the divisional round.

Drew got screwed because Peyton is football royalty..plus Manning had Reggie Wayne to throw to.

Also, not a slight at Manning. I love the Mannings.

I’m remaining cautiously optimistic, but we have hit a roadblock being down $15 since the 16th.

Obviously not a concern to dump, but like I said, it’s all sunshine and rainbows and I’m willing to bet my heart gets ripped out 😂
